i have a query about the performance of ATI HD 5470 graphics card. is it able to efficiently handle the applications related to graphics designing, video editing and moderate level of gaming? i have to buy a notebook and i have two options:
dell studio 15 with ATI HD 5470
dell xps 16 with ATI HD 5730.
Which one will be better for above purpose and in terms of future security (i have no plan to buy any other notebook in the next 5 years and i want that my graphics card should work smoothly for that much time without any hurdle)?

Yes it is, in lower end. I don't you should think expecting getting a laptop for 5 years, It is too much time technologically. I would buy a cheaper one now and buy another 3 year from now.

    Things to expect: USB 3.0
Widespread SSD's(can be installed) so no big issues there.
    More and fast memory
    Better graphic cards.
    Multiple core CPU's.

I expect a cheap laptop of 2013 being as powerful of one of the medium-high today.

From last year i am seeing a DV7 with i7 going from 1500 Euros to 1100 Euros.
So i think it is wiser, unless you only expect to do text processing, and for that maybe a laptop can last 10yrs :D to expect a faster change rate.

There's nothing wrong with using a notebook for 5+ years. IMO get the sXPS 16 with the HD 5730.

I'd get the Studio XPS 16. Here are the 3dmark06 scores.

5470: 3643 Call of Duty: MW 2: 18.1 FPS on high.
5730: 7727 Call of Duty: MW 2: 37.7 FPS on high.
