Get the driver for your OS and card by downloading the EXE, and also downloading the modified INF file. Once they are both on your computer, run the EXE to extract the files to a folder on your machine. Then, copy the INF file to the extracted directory (make sure you confirm the file being overwritten with the modified file).
Uninstall the current driver from your machine by going into Device Manager, right clicking the display adapter, and select Uninstall. When that is done, reboot the machine. After reboot, if it asks you for permission to install the driver, cancel it. Then, browse to the folder where you extracted all of the driver files, and run setup.exe as an Administrator.
This should get you an up-to-date driver. Others on here can comment on which version works best for them. I am testing out 169.19, but I am also running 64-bit Vista, and I think it is 64-bit-specific (I may be off on that statement, though). It looks like 167.45 is the most recent for Vista 32-bit, so you may want to give that one a shot. -
Follow the link in my sif for how to's on updating drivers.

You're going to have trouble running anything with 1GB and Windows Vista. At the least, you're going to need 2GB to run anything well. After that, you'll have no problems running COD2 maxed out, but the newer games will need some of the eye candy turned down.
where to get 8600M GT driver
