nVidia stopped producing them about 2 months a go,now the only graphic cards you can see in high end notebooks regarding nVidia cards are 9800GTS and 9800GTX.

we went over this many many times.

the 9800M GT was recently pulled since the GTS was near the performance of the GT by about 5%... which would not be a great value (performance/price)

So until further notice, Nvidia will probably (mainly speculation) be improving the GT with a die shrink and an increasing of the clocks.

So if you want bang for the buck get a GTS or GS... both same specs, but the GTS has higher clocks.

... or get bragging rights by getting a GTX. ;)

i wouldnt say stock piles, probably a limited number left though.

Alienware probably stockpiled it though.... since Nvidia already pulled production of it.

A possible explanation is that Nvidia was trying to get rid of old 8800M-GTX stock, so they re-flashed them with a new name and sold them off.

Yeah you have to consider that the 9800M GT is simply a re-branded 8800M GTX so maybe Nvidia wanted to get rid of their old stock and then they stopped making them(or maybe they stopped to improve them so that it's no longer the old stock).

But yeah, the 9800M GTS or GS are far more cost efficient than the 9800M GT, which does not provide a significant boost over the other 2 to justify a large price increase.

The 9800m GTS and the 9800m GT were getting scores too close to each other. So i guess a OC 9800m GTS is the same as a 9800m GT. So nVidia just thought they should leave us with the best bang for our buck.
