    I have an x850 XT Platinum Edition in my 6 year old desktop right now. It still plays most games pretty good (but some it can't because it only has SM 2.0). But once again it's a desktop card and it's old, so why would you buy it? It was the fastest card in the world ... but that was a long time ago when it was competing against the nvidia 6800 Ultra. Now it is severely outclassed by most mid-range cards, like the 9600 GT.

    That FX 1600m is not a gaming card, so it would not be good in games. As for the 8700m GT, it would be faster than your desktop card but I am not sure exactly how much.

    Isn't the X850XT as good as a 7800GT? The 8700M GT is abou equal to the 8600GT, which is similar to the 7800GTX.

    Not quite as good, I have the Maximum PC magazine where they compared the two. The x850 XT is between the performance of the 6800 GT and 7800 GT.

    dx10 is not backward compatible. however, dx9 should be still around for next 2-3 years.

    there is no way an 8700m gt is twice as fast as an x850xt.

    definitely faster though, and compatible with all modern games.

    haha, ahh.. Well according to old reviews of the X850XT, the card is about 35% slower than a 7800GTX, and the 8700m GT is about %50 faster than the 7800GTX, so that makes the 8700m GT around 85% faster than the X850XT.

    This isn't perfect though, because it's hard to find reviews with similar benchmark tests done, so these results are from 3dmark 05. Also, the test computers from the X850XT has a pentium 4, vs the 8700m GT's 2ghz Core 2 duo.. So again, it's a rough estimate here..

    Here:

    http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=535&card2=59

    The X850XT has more memory bandwidth and a higher pixel fill rate (2X the ROPS.)

    The 8700m GT has more of everything else.

    If you could some how put these 2 in an identical PC (RAM, CPU, etc), the X850 might actually play some old games better as those depend primarily on bandwidth and fill-rate

    However, any shader heavy game (like nearly anything released in the last 3 or so years) would do much better on the 8700m.

    So the spec I gave in the begginning should bomb through most of the older games?

    Sigh...

    Please stop pointing at GPUreview... the site is nigh pointless.

    Comparing stats that don't really compare especially between generations is just plain bull.

    The 8700m GT when OC'd performs almost exactly the same as a Desktop 8600 GTS.

    Go to Tom's Hardware and their VGA charts and look at any benchmark you like with the X850XT and the 8600 GTS.

    If you go to "all games' fps"
    8600m GTS = 1127.50
    X850XT = 972

    Remember, the scores are biased as the 8600 GTS is capable of doing MUCH more, but this is what you would see as far as FPS.

    The 8700m GT when OC'd is a fine card and will solidly beat your old card while looking better in almost every situation. (perhaps ancient games at 1920x1200)

    as kernal said comparing stats means nothing really, the way those stats are utilized are different, therefore making it unfair to compare they're stats.

    The 8700m GT is *close* to twice as fast as the 850.

    You realize that with different drivers the quadros perform exactly the same as their counterparts?

    1600 = 8700mGt no?

    They are exactly the same with different drivers.

    Definitely agree with KernalPanic. I had 8700m GT´s myself in SLI though. They are very capable cards. A 850 xt hold´s nothing against 8600/8700
