Me and a few friends want to play one of the newer mmorpg's together, we've already done WoW and don't really have enough time to play to make the monthly cost worthwhile...we are thinking of trying guild wars, since we've heard so many good things about it....

Which copy should we pick up? I'm guessing it's between either the original campaign, nightfall, or factions, right? any advice?

    Depends on what you're after.

My favorite is the original campaign. It's the longest, and imo, the best campaign there is. So if you're interested in the campaign, team-based co-op missions, go for the original game.

Factions is the big PvP game though. The campaign there basically sucks, but there's a lot more content for faction-based PvP (still just small team-based missions and arenas, however, which gets a bit repetetive imo, but a lot of people love it)

Nightfall is somewhere in between. Longer, better campaign than Factions, and a bit more PvP than the original game. It's also more singleplayer friendly due to the addition of NPC heroes you get to fill empty slots on your team.

As I said, I'd go with the original game.

Go to a guildwars forum and ask for a trial key, most of them give you access to all 3 campaigns for 10 hours/14 days whichever comes first.

Well, like Jalf said, it depends whether you'd prefer to pvp more, or do the campaigns and help each other out. Personally, for campaigns, i would choose Nightfall as it has a great storyline, i find that the original (Prophecies) takes too long to level up. And for pvp, then choose factions.

I only have the original, but it was actually pretty fun as PvE. Though if you want a game that is very similar to WoW, try out LOTRO. There isn't much of an end game, but you'll have a lot of fun playing co-op aka PvE. Since the game is quest based with the ability to solo a lot of the times, having 1 or 2 other friends run everywhere with you really helps.

i'll have to check out lotro thanks :)
as for GW, i'm leaning towards prophecies or nightfall, since they have the easier learning curve for a new player...

i have all 4 (i include eotn in 4) they are all REALLY fun, i'd get guild wars platnium edition so you get prophacies and eotn, best of both worlds, you get heroes, and the BEST campain of all of them. dont get factions first, campain is the shortest, and thier extra professions arent that worth it. nightfall is very good, long campain, and the 2 professions extra are very fun to pllay. though, if you like it i ultimately suggest getting all of them. and if you want to do high level pvp you will need all of them (guild wars is the most strategic and competitive mmo i have played, you can spend hours configuring your entire teams builds to just the right thing for perfect synergy)

pm me if you want help in the game. ive been playing for 3 years and i knwo my way around :D
