the nVidia 540m, 525m or the Radeon 7690m?
EDIT: I guess I want to know which one (if any) will last me the next 4 years allowing me to play games on medium?

7690m.

7690M > GT 555M > ...
With that Nvidia-AMD conversion out of the way, you get the idea. -

HD7690M was recently released. We are waiting for the 28nm equivalent parts from NVidia to also be released in the coming weeks. eg: Lenovo Y470 has a GT550M, just-released Y470P has a HD7690M and Ivy Bridge Y480 will have a GT6xxM.
You may consider delaying your purchase. -
Thanks for the help everyone, much appreciated. -
If you're buying in July, sit back and forget what you're looking at right now, because they will all have been replaced by the next generation.
Also, none of the options you posted would last you 4 years anyway. Even 2 would be pushing it. -
none of these will allow you to play games at medium for 4 years!! sorry buddy, but reality
-
You didn't mention how you're going to use it? Some GPUs might be overkill for how you intend to use them.
-
to people who said none will last 4 years playing on medium, I wasn't expecting any to be able to, just checking. For now I think I'll do as Kevin said and just wait to see how the changes affect my options. Thanks to all of you for the help... I'll probably bump this thread in July when I'm ready to buy. -
Judging by the cards we know of so far, a person who needs a notebook to last as long as four years will probably need to be on the look out for the GTX 660M and 7800M series, as a minimum.
Anything below those simply will not last as long. -
yeah man, save money for new tech and you will get a sweet laptop with a neat GPU this summer

That also depends on what games will the OP be playing in 4 years time.
To that end, even a mid-range gpu can last you that much time seeing how there are new games that can be run on decently high settings as well.
Not everyone plays FPS games like Crysis that require GTX cards for fluid gameplay on everything maxed out (besides... 'Ultra' settings are a bit pointless compared to 'High' and a size-able hit on the fps).
Numerous MMORPG's for example can be run just fine with medium range gpu's (from several years ago) and decently high settings - so I don't see what the big deal is. -

True. With me I want all out with RPG's but Fps I play on low since i moving to fast to really notice the difference.

If budget is a concern, I would look into desktop gaming.
