Hi, since my current driver seems to have got damaged, i need to uninstall and install a new one (cant start the nvidia control panel anymore).

Anyone got tipps on which one is the best driver at the moment for gaming performance ? Got an asus g50vt-a1 with a nvidia 9800M GS.

In the past i made a comparison between 4 drivers and the oldest(!) dox driver was the best one. but that was already a year ago so i might update to a new one :p

So dox driver? Yes, which one? No, which nvidia driver?

    thanks :)

btw: I dont OC my gpu.. so a dox driver which increases the temps a bit (but therefor gives better performance.. like some old dox drivers) is welcome too :)

@edit: i also just read about drivers which dont include hdmi-audio or HD-Audio.. is there a way to manually install it ? like physx ?

hm i guess the dox 195.62 will be still the best.. atleast thats what i´m reading in some threads here.

or can anyone tell other? especially guys with the 9800M GS?

    also:
anyway i can backup my nvidia settings when i´m not able to access the nvidia control panel? :(

@edit: also the latest i find is 258.96.. but i read smth about 259 drivers already released?

I tried various drivers in the past week for my 9800M gs, Dox's 195.62 and the official 198.05 whql drivers from MS update work the best for me, forget about 258/259 drivers, they may work well for newer cards, but they totally suck for the 9800M gs.

198.05.. that driver doesnt exist on nvidia.com? :S

does the dox 195.62 support the flash player acceleration?

and still need a way to export settings without nvidia control panel access

    thanks

never used dox or the ms update ones.
imo for your card you wont find any better than 186.81 as thats been the best driver nvidia has released.

i got 198.05 installed now and got a few issues:

1080p flash movies (youtube) are lagging alot.. wasnt with the driver i had before (altough that one didnt had any flash gpu acceleration).

with the old driver, the volume output changed automatically to hdmi (when i plugged in the hdmi cable) or to speakers (when i plugged it out).. doesnt work now either.. it seems like some hd audio driver is missing.

    any other driver recommendations?

i have to say: the 3dmark06 score went up by 400 points

The youtube vid lagging may have nothing to do with your GPU drivers at all, try to empty the cache/memory collecting/cookies of your browser and make sure you have the latest flashplayer properly installed.

As for the audio device selection, you can always manually select which device you want to use in sound and audio device in the control panel. That's what I always do when I hook my laptop to my HDTV via hdmi cable.

The best driver for benchmarks is dox 185.20 period...

The best driver for gaming is dox 185.85...nothing comes close

avoid the new nvidia drivers, I lost 2-5 fps in most games compared to 185.85

Then it may have something to do with the browser you are using, perhaps switch to another browser?

What's your Video card? DOX's 185.85 was great, I have used it for a long time until it gave me graphical glitches in one game(I think it's borderlands). Haven't compared it to the recent drivers since it's a pretty old one.

Well ive always used latest nvidia drivers till today morning (i was using 260.something beta, the latest ones) and out of the blue i decided to give DOX 185.85 drivers a go.

    well....what an improvement!

Ive tested just a few games and made some runs with 3dmark06, its impressive to note that even if the drivers are old now they performs alot better than newer ones.

Ive tested F1 2010: smooth gameplay, more fps, less resource used when Vsync and 2x/8xCsaa used compared to the official 260.13

Tested Dead Rising 2, now i can keep 2xFsaa,all high AND blur on, fps never drop below 30fps in crowded areas, while in others is rocksolid 60fps.

3dMark06: with 260.13, same cpu speed, i had got 11,780.
Now with the same setup and cpu speed, i got 12,146 points.

    So they still perform better!

i figured out that it also lags with IE.. but way less then it was in FF (i fixed it somehow.. still it lags a bit in FF).

guess i will also go back to the old fox driver i had before :S

but have to agree.. it gave glitches sometimes
