Simple answer: Eden Games already admitted they wanted this game to be easy to approach and to do that, they had to make it arcade-style. However, it is too arcade style. It was the over-ridiculous physics that stopped from buying it for good.

Too bad, I would love to race other people in a sandbox environment but with simulation-styled physics, but sadly no developer has dared themselves to do it.

I have TDU2 and I love it, I know its not a simulation racer but it is still fun. Unlike Shift which thinks its a simulation but is really just as arcadey as TDU, after playing something like Forza or Gran Turismo you can really tell how bad shift really is.

TDU2 looks worse than TDU1 and performs much worse too. I liked TDU1 but TDU2 it just plain bad.

On the Xbox, TDU2 does look like crap, even at 1080P. The graphics have a ton of jaggies and whatnot.

Anyways, Shift is closer to a sim than TDU and Shift 2 Unleashed will be even more of a sim competing on the same level of GT5 and Forza 3. The point of TDU has never been realism, it's been about fun-to-drive open world exploration and racing. Not race track simulation.

i know TDU series is an exploration drive in real streets sort of MMO kinda racing game. This concept is good. The implimentation kinda sucks cause the graphics and realism is poor.

why couldnt they have made the game drive in real streets of a real world place, with real cars, and most importantly, with high quality real world graphics and real world car handling? why make the graphics crap and handing arcade style?

for TDU1 i totally have no problem with. its the first iteration and it was a nice concept. for tdu2 I expected so much more, at least a show of improvement in the graphics and realism department but both have fell very very short and is kinda disappointing!

Cause it is Atari. They don't even have funds to give their developers access to the cars in real-life to gather the driving mechanics unlike the guys at Polyphony Digital.
