Hey vista can only improve (worst than this it's impossible  ) with time and future service pack,i think that with Vista SP2 the gap between xp and vista will disappear...unless the rtm version it's different from the official

i personly find vista far better than xp ever was, i dont have any issues with anything really, and have not encountered any major probs

even with my 8600gt i only have any issues with 1 or 2 games, and every other game runs absoloutly fine with no stuttering or graphical issues at all

Most likely... no. Which one are you referring anyway? Stutter cause by memory leak issue? I heard that's a hardware problem, design flaw or something like that. Try search around.

Very happy with Vista and the 8700m... (I have SP1, but I didn't have this issue before SP1) apparently the 8700m does not share this stuttering issue in Vista as I have no idea what you are talking about.

(the 8700m is the same chip with more voltage and a higher base clock)

Honestly, have you thought about heat?

Maybe it has nothing to do with Vista and more to do with the cooling being provided for your 8600

Is it possible your drivers are dropping into power save/heat overload reduced performance mode?

Nearly every problem I have seen associated with Vista isn't Vista at all.

I have 8800M GTX with Vista 32 bit and the stuttering is driving me crazy. GTR2 can not be played because of this. I have tried numerous graphic drivers and the only solution that have worked is to change the ACPI driver (under computer in the device manager) but that leaves only one core and make the fps go down. But at least it makes the game playable.

I soon go insane over this...

Maybe you need to enable v-sync, If lowering the fps is the solution. No stuttering issues with 173.65.

I'm using a MacBook Pro so I have a slightly modified 8600m GT, and I have never had any stuttering issues with any of the drivers I have used.

So far it has been the original bootcamp driver, 163.44, 169.09, 169.32, and 174.12.

I'm not sure if the 163.44 was actually the driver, but I'm pretty sure those were the numbers. Anyway, it has been smooth sailing with increasing performance. Each driver revision and performance based windows update patch has actually brought Vista and XP into gaming parity for me. Only thing left to steamroll are the crappy data transfer speeds, and allegedly those will be dealt with somewhat in SP1.

As for me, I'll be waiting until I can get them straight off of windows update without any special tweaks or manual downloads. I think that means I'll be waiting till mid-April.

What games are you having stuttering issues with?

negz - are you talking about the stuttering issue on all games as soon as things warm up ?

Yes, some users reported stuttering on their 8600M GT macbooks and apple issued this fix. Similar to how toshiba and compal issued bios updates to fix the problems their users had.
