Hello, I have a short question. I already installed the 169.04 driver for my 8600m GT card from video2go (I believe that's what the website was called), but in windows vista update window, I have 1 optional update:

    "nVidia - Video - NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 10/31/07

    Download size: 51.0 MB"

Is this a NEWER or better driver than the 169.04? In other words, should I do this update, or leave my 169.04?

    thank you

Edit: I included the date the update was released.

Well 169.09 is the best driver out at present for a host of Nvidia cards. The Windows update driver I'm sure is just a mobile driver update. Thus it will not perform nearly as well. If you want the latest go to laptopvideo2go.com

I though there wasn't much of a difference between the .04 and .09...

.04 or .09 are similar, so dont worry about updating. As for vista, that would be an older version of the driver. Stick with what you have until something better comes out.

The update from windows update installs a much older driver. It is definitely worse than the latest 169.xx drivers. I installed the update, but then ended up reinstalling the 169.09 driver minutes later. Go figure.

Thank you, that is what I thought as well, but just wanted to make sure. It was very tempting to press the "install update" button :) Buttons in vista are so pretty, you just want to press them all.

Hopefully you never work at NORAD or a nuclear power plant.

Not sure, but there are some bug fixes for .09. I found the .09 to be more stable.
