When I think about it... I like games that use magic and lot of action like shooters. For example I wasn't a big fan of divinity (not sure if i spelled it right, it came out around the time dragon age came out). Also I am not a big fan of any of the final fantasy games because I felt like it was to slow.
So giving that information this game is probably not for me right?

Go for it. I think you'll like it but I don't know you, it isn't turned based combat like Final Fantasy. youtube a bunch of videos to get a better idea of how it plays...no one can really tell you what games you'll like but you.

You could also check out Morrowind or Oblivion first if you want to get a feel for the Elder Scrolls series. They should cost little to nothing now if you search around for them. But, if you've got the cash, I say go ahead and jump into Skyrim. It sounds like it would up your alley according to what you've posted, and it truly is a great game.

the videos on youtube for the most part look cool but a lot of the videos i saw are the spells and quite a bit of action for fight scenes. Maybe I can find a demo online to try.

Skyrim won't be as tactical as DAO, for instance, so it is pretty straightforward from an action standpoint. Mass Effect will incorporate the shooter aspect as well as having "magic" in the form of biotics.

If you like fantasy settings and first-person action mechanics, you'll probably enjoy it. I'd skip Oblivion and Morrowind, though; the gameplay, especially in terms of magic, is much more refined than the previous two. And there are plenty of mods available to tweak the magic system; I highly recommend Midas Magic, which you can get via the Steam Workshop and will automatically install to your copy of Skyrim.

Like how Todd Howard describes it (paraphrasing): "YOU CAN DO ANYTHING IN THIS GAME. See that big mountain in the distance? You can climb it."

^^ ahahahahahahaha

If you're into a fantasy type setting but also like action packed type melee/spells try the Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning Demo on Steam. Its really addicting.

Also consider trying the Witcher 2. I like it much much better than skyrim

It was released five months ago and it's been consistently the most popular game on steam.
Many of us who have purchased the game have derived hundreds and hundreds of hours of enjoyment. Some have racked up more than a thousand hours. Also, there are thousands of free mods you can try, some of which add interesting new content to the game.
would i like skyrim?
