Bestbuy currently has a toshiba with the 8700m gt dd2 for 1349 and the Asus g1 for 1549. The asus has the 2.2ghz core 2 duo while the toshiba only has the 1.66ghz. Should i go with the asus?

I'd go with the ASUS with th 8600M GT GDDR3. Since a 8700M GT is only an overclocked 8600M GT(but bigger so it will have better heat dissipation) you should be able to over clock it to 8700 level & faster since DDR2 is slower then GDDR3.
-
The 8700m GT is not just an overclocked 8600m GT. It may seem that way in the specs, but the 8700m GT is physically larger, allowing for better heat dissipation.
Instead of asking about the graphics card, decide if you want a 15 or 17 inch screen. -
Uh, Nvidia doesn't list an 8700 with DDR2...
It says GDDR3 and has no other listing.
http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_8700M_techspecs.html
As compared with the 8600GT which lists GDDR3 and low-cost GDDR2.
http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_8600M_techspecs.html
All 8700GTs are GDDR3 according to Nvidia...
FYI, 8700s are NOT just overclocked 8600s...
At the very least they are 30+% faster clocked stock
and have higher power requirements and better cooling.
A massively overclocked 8600 GDDR3 at close to meltdown temps can get close to a stock underclocked 8700s scores, but not match them...
Then you OC the 8700 by 25-30% and note the temp hasn't moved...
At that point you figure out the 8700 isn't OC'd... its superior hardware that is clocked higher because its superior. -
i'd go for 8700, but not in a 17 inch laptop tho

The processor is what concerns me a 1.66 vs 2.2

im awaiting more info on this best buy model before buying it.. it appears to be ddr3 but toshiba is swearing its not they say its ddr2.. i don tknow what to think
-
might be too late to get it before u know...if u really want it, get it....so what, even if it ddr2(which i highly doubt), get it...

The Asus processor will have a larger level 2 cache, but how much of a real world difference that will provide depends on what you use the system for (what games, etc). The Asus g1s system also weighs 2-3 lbs less.
The x205 has a finger print reader, better sound system, and runs cooler. If you will plan to use any of those features than the x205 may be better for you.
Personally I'd get the x205, because the finger print reader, good sound system, and cooler running system are all things that appeal to me.You could upgrade the processor later (like another member on this forum did), and if you talk with Toshiba there may be a way to buy/swap the ddr2 for a ddr3 card since the motherboard on the Best Buy model and the ddr3 models should be the same.
It should be noted that the difference in clock speed between a ddr2 and ddr3 8700 (if the Best Buy card really is ddr2) isn't as drastic as the clock speed difference between the ddr2 and ddr3 8600 cards. -
Before you think too far into this, know that the consensus around here is that the 8700m GT in the X205 is GDDR3 - even though BestBuy and Toshiba denies it.
-
Why would they deny it being GDDR3? That seems odd. It's either DDR2 fast clocked or GDDR3.

would u rather have 8700mgt dd2 or 8600mgt dd3
