What hard drive do you have? 56 is a warm for a 5400 RPM HDD, but about normal for a 7200 RPM (depending on model, brand, etc.)

HDD temperature also depends on the notebook design as well as the HDD model and HDDs tend to be hotter in summer. Tom's Hardware has some useful charts for 2.5" HDD power consumption.

Most notebook HDDs are rated for a maximum temperature of 55C or 60C. You have to check their specs. However, a slightly high temperature is not going to cause instant death but will reduce the life expectancy. The 2.5" HDDs provided for 24/7 operation in servers use usually have lower specified maximum temperatures.

This is probably the same family as the ST9160823AS which is 4th from bottom of the maximum power chart. So it will tend to run quite hot.
