I'm assuming by laptop he means the notebook in his sig.

And 2142, along with BF2, are world renowned RAM eaters.

An extra gig of ram in the battlefield games is definatly beneficial for performance. They are real ram hogs. Though I find 1 gig is alrite.

BF2142 is definitely more demanding than BF2; on my desktop, I can run BF2 at 1280x1024 with relatively high settings, but BF2142 I am limited to 1024x768 to get similar performance.

My desktop has a Pentium 4 3.2GHz, 2GB RAM, and a 256MB 9800XT. Not the newest hardware but it was when I first got it. :)

I just ordered the following laptop:

    --Toshiba Satellite A130--

    CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 (2.00GHz, 4MB L2 cache, 667MHz FSB)
    OS: Windows Vista Premium 32-Bit
    Memory: 2048MB PC5300 DDR2 667MHz SDRAM (1024MBx2)
LCD: 15.4" Widescreen XGA TruBrite (1280x800)
Graphics Card: nVIDIA GeForce Go 7600, 256MB dedicated graphics memory
    HDD: 80GB HDD (5400rpm, Serial-ATA)
Optical Media: DVD SuperMulti (+/-R double layer) drive

Since I don't have a 7900 GPU (I only have the 7600) will my machine struggle with BF2142, or will it run O.K?

I play BF 2142 on my desktop all the time and it runs great.

    Desktop:

    AMD 64 3500+
    1GB RAM
    Geforce 6800 128MB Dedicated

My biggest question...Will my new laptop run BR2142 better or worse than my desktop. What about other games?

    Big quesiton

I'm no computer expert but I'm pretty sure that the laptop will run it a lot better.

yeh i have a very similar spec( check my sig) and it breezes through battlefield 2 with most settings on high so you should be well set. Its the 2gb of ram that will really help you along. The 7600 is still very good for a notebook gpu.
The extra gig of ram and more memory on the gpu will make your notebook the more formidable gaming machine with the vast majority of games compared with your desktop.

You definitely need more ram though in my opinion. BF2, and especially BF2142, trash around an awful lot at the start of a game if you're running at max with only 1gb of ram...
