Ok, so I've got a fsc amilo pi1536 with an ati mobility radeon x1400. Been having some problems with drivers, i.e. the only drivers that actually work properly are the one that fsc supplied me with on the backup disk, and that's like catalyst 5.13 or something i dunno. Basically, with all of the newer catalyst drivers (and omega drivers) some of the textures don't load properly i.e. leaving massive blocks of black that should be clouds. Attached are a few of screenshots from GTA san andreas.

Just to give you an idea of what I have tried:

All combinations of all compatability options in Ati Tray Tools (im using tray tools instead of CCC and yes I've tried it with CCC, still same problem).
    Drivercleaner inbetween uninstallation and installation.
Actually getting the drivers from Ati (all it gives me is that **** verifier that says I can't get the drivers).

None of them worked, so I would be forever greatful if someone with a bit of experience in the area could help me out, cos i know these drivers do make a difference with performance.

If you look at the stickies in this section, the UPgrading Graphics Drivers thread has a direct link to the latest version of the ATi Mobility Catalyst drivers. You can try using them.

My X1400 had problems similar to what you're having with the Catalyst 7.1 drivers. I switched to Omega 7.1 drivers and everything is running fine. If it keeps this up, regardless of driver, it could be that your card is overheating or defective.

    "I'm freaking out man"

Have you tried ATi's uninstall-all executable?

Yeah I've tried all links here+clean uninstalls/installs. I don't think it's a defective card, because when I use the original drivers given by the manufacturer, everything's absolutely fine, just rather slow.
At the moment I'm in contact with mxm-upgrade to try and get a new card (probably geforce go 7600 as it has the same mxm type 2 specs) because I'm not too happy with the performance at any rate, and yes, I did fall for the whole hypermemory thing when I bought the x1400, and have learnt much since... ;)

Right, I've managed to get some updates direct from fujitsu-siemens, and although it's only like catalyst 6.5 or something, it's better than before. I tried playing around with the alternate pixel centre, and it seemed to do the trick. But I think that there is something wrong with the card in any event and I'm considering sending it for a check, as it's still under warrenty, and ocing is very hard to detect :)...perhaps they'll replace the card??
