i was wondering which of these 2 is stronger: Radeon X1400(laptop) or Radeon 9600 256MB(desktop). My cousin have a 9600 on is desktop and he can play FEAR at high/maximum setting and can play with no problem. And tried Hitman BM but only medium~setting but when he tried Ghost Recon AWF he can only play smoothly at low setting. (weird huh?) I was kind of suprised that he can play FEAR at high setting and not GR:AWF. Anyone have an idea?

a 9600 playing F.E.A.R. on high? He must be playing on low-res. An x1400 is definitely faster than a 9600, given that it was 256 megs of RAM. F.E.A.R. is very videocard memory demanding. So if you have anything less than 256, you're gonna see crazy slowdowns in higher resolutions. I might be mistaken here, but isn't AWF supposed to have much better graphics than F.E.A.R.? Or at least more demanding?

Good question. Is the Radeon 9600 a stock 9600 or is it a Pro/XT? If it's an XT, performance will be similar, that gets around 2000 3DMarks; the X1400 gets around that.

well, the stock 9600 has only 128mb, but the one my cousin have is an 256, so it might be an XT

If it's not an XT you'll see a marginal performance boost with the X1400, mostly in newer games.

Yeah, i have a freind with a 9600 in a laptop, and it can play fear at good resalution and medium settings, with shadows and stuff turned on at a playable, but not smoot frame rate. i dont know how it got so powerful, he doesn't have it overclocked, its kind of odd...

well, every kind of pc or video card can give us many kind of suprise. Maybe some pc are more comfortable with a certain program or game than others, who knows.
