I'm really wanting to get my hands on the Lenovo Thinkpad T400. I was wondering how the HD3470 stacks up to what I currently have; the x1400.
I don't game very often, sans AoE2, AoE3, Spore and Fable. Nothing to demanding and nothing my current setup can't handle.
I know that the HD3400 series is basically a remake of the HD2400 series with DX10.1 among other things.
So... x1400 vs. HD3470 ... GO!

It won't be a huge upgrade. Might be around the same as jumping from the x1400 to the x1600/x1700.
That being said theres a lot of advantages to the T400 over the dell 6400. Smaller form factor, montevina platform, hybrid-graphics, DDR3 memory, wimax, led screen, etc. -
Well my notebook also has x1400 and my friends XPS1330 jas nVidia 8400GS wich is quite noticebly better than my x1400. And since I hear that the 3470 is even better than the 8400 I say it's a go, if you're not after 36xx series or nvidia 9600 performance.
There should be a fairly good amount of difference between the two. -
Check out Notebook Check's GPU Page
Here's a comparison of their 3DMark 06 scores:
ATI X1400 = 1228
ATI HD3470 = 2000 -
if an x1400 handles your games well then it wont be too noticeable other then a better ability to play future games. Youll be more then happy.

What I was worried about was the difference in the memory interface:
x1400 = 128bit; HD3470 = 64bit. ( Unless I'm wrong)

i recently just made the switch from an x1400 (dell 6400) to an hd3470 (sony sr) and although i havent tested many games yet, in CS:S i used to get average 40fps and now on the sony i get average 80fps (this is with all settings on high). hope this helps somehow

Well theres a perfect example
. ^ ^
Actually im pretty sure the Dell 6400 has a 64-bit version of the x1400. You can always use GPU-Z to check though.
Is the 3470 really 64-bit? Eh i guess its ok if you don't game a lot. Personally I would go with the T500. -

I upgraded from a x1600 Mobility 256mb, to my current 8600m GT and notice very much an increased frame rate in WoW, as well as being able to run Sins of a Solar Empire at more than Mid or so, which is all that the x1600 is supposed to be able to handle, where i run at Highest.
I would say go for it, i upgraded from my F3Ja to this after only 14-18 months of having it. -

Yeah, the x1400 in my Dell is 64bit. My bad.
Anyone have GPU-Z pic of the HD3470 we can compare to? -

Wow...
I dunno if something is off or what... but look at the immense difference between the pixel and texture fill rates!! Also, what's with the GPU clock? 74.71 GHz?? Lolz!
I like the GDDR3 Memory and the increased bandwidth! -
Any ideas why the fill rates are so different?

The picture is obviously re-touched or whatever. Either way the HD 3400 is about twice as powerful as the X1400 in most real world cases, depending on game and the amount of VRAM you have.
