I was gonna post this in the alienware forum, but since this applies to anyone using a x1800, I'll post it here.

The x1800 is a beast. It's underclocked because it normally overheats. If you have a good heating pad, you can bring it back up to stock temps, and find it meets or beats a 7900 go gs!

    Here are my pics:

    3dmark 05 score:

Far Cry, highest settings, with Amd 64 bit patch enabled (don't ask):

    GRAW, highest settings, 16x anisotrophy:

Half Life 2 pics. Bilinear mipmaping, most things high except lighting, bloom shading:

    [IMG] [IMG]

Half Life 2 Episode 1. HDR, high models, low lighting, bilenear mipmapping:

Quake 4. Ultra quality, self shadows and parallax mod enabled:

I'll be adding more pics as I go, I haven't the opportunity to play that much. Keep watching this post.

    It doesnt beat a 7900gs im affraid. With a core2duo 2gig and 7900gs a laptop will score 6300 points stock in 3dmark 05. when overclocked the 7900gs will score 9000+ in 3dmark 05.But it is close :D

We're talking 'stock' temps, or supposed to be stock temps here, the x1800 is too hot to be pushed to 9000... although, mine is running so cool, I could push it another 2000...

Mine is a score from 512 megs ram.

9000+ is too much for a 7900GS in a notebook. The record I saw was a forum member that had an Dell XPS M1710 (dual pipe cooler) that had overclocked it's 7900GS and had a score of 8500 3dmark05 points.

But like stated the 7900GS is superior in anyway compared with the X1800.

If we compare only 3DMark scores, 7900GS(at 375,500) is clearly better than X1800(at 450,500). X1800 gets quite close in 3DMark05 but 7900GS gets ahead in 3DMark06. But these are only synthetic benchmarks, propably not something to be the whole truth...

I think overall 7900GS is a lot better card because it doesn't generate so much heat with stock clocks and is already a bit faster in most cases than X1800. But X1800 has its own strengths. Most games propably run faster with 7900GS but maybe some run better with X1800...

My 3DMark05 and -06 scores with ATI default clocks:

I agree with ronkotus. The benchmark is only synthetic and doesn't neccesarily give accurate trends of graphics card speed. Other factors such as processor must alos be taken into account, as they can also have an effect on the score.

The Mobility X1800 isn't a bad card, its just its a little slower than the Go 7900 GS. I'm not too sure about is running how, as I can't seem to read the temperature on mine. I will have to take your word that it runs hot. Specifications for the cards are vastly different. 12 Shaders vs. 24, 375 MHz vs. 450/ core. It seems that both cards have their advantages. But as ronkotus has mentioned, some games perform better with the Mobility X1800, and some with the Go 7900 GS.

It was indeed that forum member. But wow, 9000+ is just insane. But keep in mind that this is achieved by a volt mod.

Those are some great scores. 6200 3dmark05 at stock. A forum member with an Alienware had 6000 with an overclock :) (also X1800 owner).

The 7900GS is a great card when it comes to power consumption (~20 Watt). That is the thing that makes this card revolutionary. But something I really like about the X1800 is that it can run HDR and AA at the same time (Oblivion for example). That is a feature that nVidia cards do not have (yet).

Yeah, that 3Dmark05 is a little lower than I figured it would be. I get 6400 stock on my Quadro in 05. About 4000 in 06. Still, ATi cards are supposed to have better picture clarity.

Well, i dont think you can overclock x1800 as much as 7900gs, with max stable overclock i could get, it only gets 6804 points in 3dmark 2005, and it is loooong way from nvidias O'Ced 7900gs and its ~9000 points.
