I have a Toshiba L25 s1193 laptop that has an x200 GPU, and im trying to figure out whats up with its graphics memory.

Specs for the notebook say it has 128mb Shared

Windows XP says it has 256mb memory.

Bios lists 128mb as the only option.. so you cant turn it up/down.

Looking at memory usage, only 128mb is missing from system memory, not 256mb.

It seems like its got 128mb dedicated and is pulling another 128mb from system RAM... this would be kinda overkill for an x200 and ive never heard of one having dedicated ram... so thought id ask... anyone know whats up here?

Don't worry that's how Hypermemory are working. There is 128mb phsysical memory and the rest is hypermemory. And that is what You see on the software.

It will only take system memory if it's needed so no need to worry ;-)

I know thats how Hypermemory works on a Dedicated GPU... but ive never seen an x200 with ANY dedicated RAM... its all system memory usually which is what has me confused about what this machine is telling me.

I think the X200 and the 200M are slightly different chipsets. X200 is a dedicated chip, and the 200M is intergrated, but can have dedicated memory. I think, not 100% sure though.

Yep, the more I researched Im not even sure there was an x200... what Im looking at is the 200m... and it looks like there was a version of the 200m that came with 128mb of RAM dedicated. From what I read it gets around 650-700 on a 3dmark05 while the non-dedicated version gets around 500.

Couldnt find out much about it though. I'll probalby run a 3dmark tonight to see what it gets... its my Girlfriends machine... upgraded it to 1gb of ram and started looking at the memory use... which started me on this little quest to find out whats going on.
