I know it's not a great card, but any personal experience with gaming with the x300?

It's OK. You can run DOOM3 at XGA on low settings. Especially if it's the 128MB version.

Unreal Tournament 2004 would be fairly easy to handle, as well as Half-Life 2 and Counter-Strike: Source. A friend of mine has a Dell i6000 with a 64MB X300, he doesn't have any problem with those games.

Don't expect to run FEAR well though.

i got a dell i6000 with a 128 MB x300. If you download ATI Trays Tools, you can overclock this card and get some great results. I can play Quake just fine, and I have been playings America's Army at high specs and 1650 x 1280 resolution as well as call of duty at high specs. Both games run at about 50 frames per second. While it isn't the greatest card, it can play most game at fairly decent setting. let me know if you have anymore questions.

Guys just a quick question for those of you who have/had x300 128mb version.

Which can be better for gaming?

    A Geforce 4 Ti4800 Se 64mb or the X300 128MB?
I want to know if there would be any benefits for me in gaming having an x300 128mb Videocard on Dell Inspiron6000 compared to my old desktop having a 64mb Gainward Geforce 4 Ti4800SE...

Just curious of who can run games like Doom3 or Dungeon Siege 2 Better?

Hard to say... I think the Ti4800 is going to be better, it's definitely a faster card, but for certain games the low amount of RAM may cause it to choke.

I agree, it's a really hard comparison. More than that, the X300 is a DirectX 9.0 native card, while the Ti4800 is a DirectX 8.0 card. I would say it's basically a toss up. I think you'd get more pure performance out of the Ti4800 in older, DX8 based games, but in newer games it'll flag badly due to low video memory and no DX9 shaders.

Tnx very much guys for the quick Reply.
A least now i know that an x300 may still do the job for games that does not require high-end gfx cards. I am not much into hardcore gaming, I just want to play some games while resting, or to lessen the stress after a hard days work.

A game like Half-Life 2/Counter-Strike: Source, Unreal Tournament 2004, and World of Warcraft will run pretty good. Newer games like FEAR you're going to have problems with, but you probably won't be playing those.

Any idea on what kind of games you want to play?

Yup. I usually play RPG's like Dungeon Siege 2 / Fable.
Need for Speed most wanted, Nba Live, maybe Guildwars and RF Online? Will I have any problems running such games? I still don't have my Inspiron6000 so I still cannot actually test it.

I read on this forum that DELL underclocks their X300? Is it advisable to overclock or to set back to normal the clockspeed of the x300 in an Inspiron 6000 using software?

I'd try running your games with the regular clocks first - if it runs fine, then there is no need to overclock.

Be sure to update your video drivers when you get it.
