Those games should have an option to enable Vsync, I would check for that first.

Yes, check the graphics settings of the games. You can enable Vsync inside the game. Also, make sure your resolution is set to your default in the game as well this will help.

Are you sure it's tearing your experiencing, or is it lagging/stuttering/graphical corruption? I'm being dead serious here - I refuse to believe an Intel X3100 is having a big issue with consistently exceeding 60 FPS in FarCry. CS 1.6, maybe, but not FarCry. Especially since FarCry says that VSync is on, can you try checking your framerates with FRAPS? If you're not consistently exceeding 60 - and even at 640x480, minimum settings, I somehow doubt the X3100 would be - VSync won't fix anything.

are you saying i cant have tearing under 60fps? i have the exact same tearing in cs 1.6 and farcry, while source games run with vsync on with 0 tearing, yea im 99% sure its vsync

btw farcry runs super smooth, how do you enable fraps?

Tearing, as it is traditionally defined, can only occur when the game's framerate exceeds the vertical refresh rate of your monitor - hence why forcing VSync fixes it. LCDs are rated, typically, at 60 HZ, or 60 redraws/minute, hence 60 FPS is the "magic number."

FRAPS is an application used to display on-screen your framerate in 3D applications. Google "FRAPS." I'd be interested to see how you define "super smooth." And if you need to bring the framerate down, because apparently your particular X3100 was bitten by a radioactive X3100 and is now SpiderGMA, well...raise the graphics settings.

well here's what i think, on farcry i only noticed the tearing on the indoor level (in the carrier), that combined with the fact that my lcd is only 50hz refresh, i think its hitting 50 on the indoor levels and thats why there's tearing, but outside the fps never gets to 50...? sound logical? ill do the fraps and report back

When you use fraps, start the program, and click on FPS. On the bottom portion of the screen you'll see a section that says Save detailed benchmark statistics. Click MinMaxAV and FPS and post both here. The FPS is going to be pretty long but "may" help with diagnosing your issue.

Lol glad to know I have helped you :) or at least tried. I have to say though you got me stumped on this one and you even got Google stumped.

EDIT: Oops I missed some instructions.

After you have set the options in FRAPs start up the game and get into a game. Load up your game or whatever then hit F11, but not at the menu make sure you're in the actual game (where you can actually shoot people) then play for 5 mins indoors and 5 mins outdoors. Hit F11 and exit your game. After you have done this right click the FRAPs icon at the bottom right of the screen, click View Benchmarks and send us the contents of the file minmaxaverage and FPS. Seems like a lot of work but it may give us an idea as to what's happening.
