    I have a dv2700 with:
    t5550
    3g ram
    x3100- newest drivers

Wasn't really planning on gaming with it, but I thouht I'd give cs:s a shot. I was impressed with the frame rate with models and textures on high given that this is an itegrated card.

However, objects at a distance are dark and hard to identify. Like view distance is turned down or something. Are there any settings to improve this? (There better not be a view distance setting that I forgot about...) Or is it just because the card sucks?

    Thanks

That's weird. The only problem with the x3100 was while standing next to a wall the gun would disappear. Have you tried older drivers?

Edit: in the darker screenies, it looks like its artifacting.

I haven't had any problems with my gun disapearing.

What's artifacting? How do I fix it?

Anyone else have any thoughts? Note in the pictures how things in the dark at a distance look weird.

I am having the same problem with HL2 as shown in these pics:

It seems to be a problem in dark areas mainly. Is this just a card limitation???

Nope, I have x3100 too, and I don't have this problem in HL2 or CS:S...although I've already seen this problem before but I can't remember how to fix it....

I may be trying your memory here, but do you remember if there was a fix?

artifacting is the white spots in the picture. I think you may have a defective card.

yes it is indeed artifactitng...have you done overclocking? if thats even possible with an IGP.. anyway send it back to your manufacturer to get yourself a new card..

your card is either fried, overheating or just play defective

Thats a pain in the ass, this thing is just 5 months old.
I doubt it's overheating because it will do that if I try right after boot up.

No I haven't tried overclocking. I don't really plan on gaming with this at all, I just wanted to see if it'd work.

Are there any tests I can do to determine for sure that it's a defective card? And if I don't plan to game with it, should I still send it in? Because I haven't had any other visual problems with it.

    Thanks for the help

Also, I thought those white spots are just part of the level in the cs pics. There aren't any in the HL2 pics. Or were you refering to the whitish objects??

download ATI tool Overclock utility and use the "scan for artifacts" feature. Let it run for about 15-20 mins and see if there are any artifacts. And as for getting it fixed, you should because overtime it will just get worse and worse to the point where it'll die.

I'd suggest uninstall the driver, wipe out any leftovers reinstall the driver and try again. You can try the previous version of the Intel's driver too..

Actually. I fired up CS and went to that spot on the map. The white dots appear for me also. So I think we can rule that out as not being artifacts. But I'm not sure whats going on with the weird looking guys though. You should still go ahead and check for artifacts in ATiTool.

I appreciate all the help so far and that people are checking the levels for me.

Look at the HL2 pics to see the annoying effect I am talking about. It's much more clear than the cs:s ones.

Later today I'm gonna try older drivers and checking for artifacts.

atthegates, when you say "wipe out any leftovers " what does that mean exactly? Don't I just go into device manager and click uninstall driver?

What I mean is, there are always leftovers when uninstall software/drivers(files, regkeys). You'll need a 'cleaner' program, it search for such leftovers..
