    Hi guys,

Looking at a new laptop, and can get a new Fujitsu Siemens Amilo(1.73ghz centrino,1gig ram,128mb X700) fearly cheap. Will that be ok with the newer games? if so will it still be ok for awile yet,or be to slow in the very near future?
Or just spend abit more money and buy a M170/1710.As a want to buy one that will be still good a afew years.

If you want it to last, buy something from the current generation of graphics cards. But for the games of today, the x700 is still good (though you might be unable to use the highest settings and it doesn't have pixel shader 3.0).

Hey Hillbilly, I think you are talking about my laptop ;).

The M1437G is a nice computer, also very cheap. But if you have the budget for a M1710, go for that.

    It has some pros:

    + M1710 is Core Duo
+ M1710 has a super fast videocard, you wont run the newest games at high resolutions with an X700
+ Dell's building quality of that XPS laptop is much better then the M1437G, believe me.

    Cons

    - M1710 is expensive, try to use a coupon or call Dell for a coupon.
    - M1437G is lighter

Yeh that's the one Charlie. How much do you know about the M1710? Is it worth the extra money to buy the 2.2ghz over the 2.0ghz?as you can a 2.2ghz unit with 100G hdd,2G of ram and 512mg 7900gtx for approx £1500
Or the 2.0ghz,80G hdd and 256mg 7900gs for approx £1300. Or spend a third and get the M1437G????? I sort of want it the modern for a couple of years.

    Decisions Decisions :(

With the x700, you'll be looking at slideshows in two years if you want to game with it.

    Hey Hillbilly,

I must say the extra 200 pounds is really worth the 2.2 Ghz with 2 GB of DDR and 512 MB 7900GTX. There is no other notebook that fast at this moment. You will be able to run Vista without any problems, you can play the latest games without any problems. Go for the best version if you have the budget, it is worth it.

    Charlie :)
