I'd like to know the performance differences in these cards. I can get a laptop with the x1600 and a smaller screen or I can get one with the x700 and a 17in screen. That and I want to know the difference

X1600 outperforms the X700 by some. 17" screen is hardly an advantage for a notebook.
-
X1600 > X700
The X1600 gets around 4000 l think in 3dmark05 while the x700 gets 2500. -
Really though...the screen's a big difference. It definitely weighs more as a 17", but if you want that big of a display...I'd say that's a non-negotiable. I like my 17" and don't mind that I got a weaker GPU to get it(I was on a tight budget). If I'd bought a 15.4" with a more powerful GPU, gaming would have been the only area to really benefit...and that's not all I use my laptop for.
Really decide if you want a 15.4" or a 17" first. Then find one that fits your budget. The difference in screen size is dramatic...so you don't want to regret it if you go smaller. -

The X1600 is faster as posted than the X700, especially when it comes to the latest games. The X1600 comes close to a GeForce Go6800 in performance.

just do what i do: Bigger number = better card
If i were you i would look first to mobility and screen size and then to the gpu. -
x700 is better than a x1300 or x1400
geforce go 6800 is better than a geforece go 7300 or 7400 -
the x1600 will beat the x700 hands down.

this isn't the same case for desktops. Bigger number for PCs mean bigger perfomance!
Edit: actually I've seen a few bigger number cards performing less than lower cards, but this is rare. -

the radeon 9800 is an older card, and is slower then the x1900..the bigger then number does not always mean it is better. it varies case by case.

Usually, bigger number within the same series does mean that it's a faster card, but even there there are some exceptions. Radeon 9250 was basically a cut-down version of the Radeon 9200. And GeForce 6800LE is usually slower than GeForce 6600GT.

haha, i never thought that comment would spark so much discussion. Sorry, i was joking around, obviously a big number is NOT ALWAYS better. I am sorry for that comment, i was just in a silly mood i guess.
