i was looking at two laptops from acer, the 5024 and 5670.

the 5024 has an x700(Performance) with 256 mb of dedicated memory (1gig main)

the 5670 has an x1400(Mid-end ) with 512mb. now asfar as i know thats 128 dedicated with up to 384 from the main memory if it needs it -which is 2gigs!

not wanting to be an expert but surely the 5670 will perform better than the 5024 yes? will its faster processor give it the edge? (duo vs turion 1.8)

will the increase in performance -if any- justify the step up in price to a notebook which is kinda out of my budget but i like the spec enough to justify it

i think the X700 256mb will easily outperform any X1400, Hypermemory is not extremely effective, so a card with 256 mb of dedicated memory will almost always be better, and the X700 has more pixel pipelines than X1400, the X1600 will easily perform better than either of them however.

Circa86 is right. HyperMemory is not much to go on, and the X1400 will be handily beat by the X700.

The Acer 5024 is one of the best price/performance notebooks around.

yeah ill prob go for the 5024 -as reccomended in the "what notebook..."
sounds like a great system for the price. i can get that with a full 3 year warranty and still stay under my limit. How easy is it to get a memory ugrade from 1gig to 2gigs of ram and would acer fo it for me?

Acer wouldn't do it for you, their notebooks come pre-configured only.

It's easy to upgrade, just a matter of removing a door on the bottom of the notebook and swapping the modules. Won't take more than a few minutes.

i sold a couple of acer 5672 with x1400 and i received feedback from customers that its not really good. if im not wrong x1300 -> x1400 -> x1600 then its x300 -> x600 ->x700. i heard from some forums saying that it got like 1500+ in 3dmark05 which is horrible. lol worse than x700 by far.
even though it has lots of video memory its not fast enough to use it efficiently. 64mb x700 kicks the ass of 256mb x1400.

Well, not to get off-topic here, but the 9700/etc. are older cards, using the AGP interface . . I kept the guide with cards that are coming in new notebooks.
