so im playing fear for like the 60th time and i noticed that after playing for a while the game caps at 30fps even if i turn a few settings down, but when i adjust the dpi on my mouse it goes back to normal. ive heard that the setpoint drivers reduce performance in fear up to 30 percent. but anyways its good to see everyone is doing good. been a while since ive been on the forums but i got into racing so my time has been going towards taht. but im back in iraq and glad to see the site is still up. oh and chaz i missed ya buddy. no homo

go to start > control panel > hardware and sound > device manager > Human Interface Devices

now at the point, there should be some misc. HID that should be disabled. for me, i right click on every HID and went to properties. clicked on the driver tab and clicked driver details. if you get a box saying" no driver files are required or have been loaded for this device" disable that HID. This small fix fixed my framerate drop and hopefully it will work for you.

It could also be vsync. Check to see if it's enabled in the video settings of FEAR.

I've actually got the same problem, but it's on my Tablet and its one of the input drivers for that... If I disable it in the HID list, I get a steady nice framerate, but left on it will drop to 15-20 and stay there until I restart. It's a common bug unfortunately, and is often linked to Logitech stuff, so check those. But yeah, it's a problem with the game and certain HID drivers as mentioned above.

And for the record, FEAR 2 does not seem to have the same problem.

hmmm... that's weird. I know my desktop with Pentium 4 (2.8GHz) and an ATI X800XT GPU could play FEAR at max at around 30FPS, and my specs are considerably lower than your laptop's.

I think Eric has the solution.
