title pretty much says it all....

I'm not sure if this came from steam or from installing angry birds pc......

Basically I've got an icon that shows up on the desktop that simply says 'yourgame.exe', I can delete it but on reboot it comes back.

No new startup programs and malware and virus scans come back clean....

    Anybody have any ideas?

Yea that sounds like some kind of malware. I had to fix my brother's PC from a similar situation.

the icon started the same day i installed angry birds and after i removed the angry birds icon from the desktop and i also installed a few steam demos...so between the two i thought it was one of those.....

i found some info with google but not sure it applies...

as I said wipe out the HDD, storage the essential things like docs (no music or other sutff)

install windows again, update everything, install anti virus, insert the back up via some form of external storage, run anti virus, then you are good to go

Just because three tools do not detect it, does not mean it's okay. It just means that the virus is too new or worse, it's a rootkit.

Wipe it clean. When you're done and you know the OS is safe, use a backup program to make an "image" of the operating system that you can always go back to if needed.

Im certain its not a virus.

I am sure its actually windows 7 issue.

This is one issue raised apparently

It seems most people are having this issue when they install small ovelty games like angry birds is one of those culprits.

Is it not due to deleting angry birds that it arose?

I had the yourgame.exe file pop up on my desktop and have found out what caused it to happen.

First, it popped up when I typed in "birthday" in my start menu search bar on Windows 7. When I typed in the B the Angry Birds game was the first thing in the list and that is exactly when the yourgame.exe file popped up on the desktop. I repeated this several time by just entering A or B in the start menu search.

Next I went to Start > Games and moused over Angry Birds, the file popped up. I then uninstalled Angry Birds went to Start > Games and moused over the remaining games and the yourgame.exe file did not get created.

I reinstalled Angry Birds again went to Start > Games and moused over Angry Birds and POP! the file was again created on my desktop.

To fix the problem I placed a shortcut to Angry Birds on my desktop and deleted the shortcut to the program from the start menu. The file has not come back.

Every time you use the Windows 7 start menu search bar and the first letter you type in is A or B the Angry Birds program will get a default mouse over and cause the yourgame.exe file to get created.

Run hijackthis and remove whatever you don't want.
If that doesn't help, run a windows utility that checks and restores system files(dlls, exe, etc), it's probably in windows\system32 but i forgot how is it called :p

FYI, the Angry Birds installer for version 1.5.2-1 (the current version on the Angry Birds website) creates a Game Explorer link that links to the YourGame.exe file on the desktop. Every time you delete the exe and open Game Explorer, the Angry Birds link will always recreate that file.

However, if you go to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\GameExplorer\{48593F36-1732-4C40-8FB6-0CB257721C5F}\PlayTasks\0, right click the Play icon, go to Properties, and change the Target to "%wherever_you_installed_angry_birds%\AngryBirds.exe" (default is C:\Program Files\Rovio\Angry Birds), the problem will go away.

I've also notified Rovio of the installer error.

    thanks for the info

I contacted Rovio almost two months ago and they just kind of blew me off saying they didn't know what I was talking about.

    Hi,
    Have you tried:
    • Microsot Update
    • Avira AntiVirus (FULL SCAN; BUT IT´s RECOMMENDED TO USE ONLY A SINGLE ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE, BECAUSE WHEN YOU USE MANY THEY BLOCK EACH OTHERS DEFINITIONS AND THE ACTIVE GUARDS.
    • TuneUp; Check Shortcuts
    • TuneUp Check Registry
My friend had also such a problem but we ended up in re-installing windows because the PC started uninstalling itself games, software and acted like a bot PC  .
But he had luck; he uses 2 PC´s one for the internet and one offline for private data.

Its quite simple and doesnt pose any threat to your pc, This is not any type of malware and only affects the standalone version of angry birds and maybe some other small games that use the same installer.

All you have to do is open games and right click on angry birds and hide it
Then delete the shortcut in the start menu, create a new shortcut from C:\program files(x86)\rovio\angry birds.exe and put it wherever you like.

This is a glitch nothing more so the wonderfull advice to format and reinstall is a knee jerk reaction by an idiot, dont do it guys

I know the topic is a bit old now, but for anyone wondering still....

It is to do with Angry birds.

Had the same problem on my mothers PC so searched it up and found this topic.

After searching for Angry Birds, I fould there was 2 copies of it under the start menu. I moved on icon to desktop, and the Icon looked nothing like the Angry birds Icon.

I deleted the 'Your Game' icon, and this stayed away until we tried to open up the fake Angry Birds.

After deleting Angry Birds altogether from the Control Panel, the Icon never seems to come back.
