already posted a similar thread on the which notebook... forum and came up with a few answers.

basically i'm wondering if it ATI make an x1800 which shares memory??

(site i'm looking at is www.laptopsdirect.ie)
the fujitsu-siemens amilo XI 1546 which i'm looking at has an x1800 with a quoted 256mb video ram but the phone rep told me it only had 64mb and the rest was shared. he was trying hard to sell me another computer and may have just been 'sales talking' but he confused me telling me this as i have no informmation to confirm/discard what he said.

can anyone tell me if this is just a thinly disguised 64mb card of a full on 256??

its just that its the top of the range card and i'd be surprised if it comes vith less than 128 let alone 64 mb

    help appreciated

According to ATIs website the MR X1800 is not available in a Hypermemory format, so I would assume its 256mb dedicated.

I'd phone back and ask to speak to someone who knows what they are talking about, have you checked the offical Fuji-Siemens site to check the info?

The X1800 is a 256MB part; as sionyboy said the X1800 is not compatible with HyperMemory. Rest assured.

as i suspected. thanks for that.

the Fuji-Siemens site doesn't say anyting about sharing but its not set in stone that its all dedicated either.

think ill go for that one. its a bit of a beast at 17" and 4kg but it may be wirth the extra performance, especially at €1500
