Well I really need a notebook to take to my school with a little bit of raw video processing power. I currently have a Dell XPS gen 2 with a 6800ultra but its just to heavy for my commute. I was very interested in the z70va and 5320 but I was wondering what kinds of frames should I expect out of these cards for CS:S id be playing in 1024x768 res with 2xaa n 4xaf if possible, if anything ill play with out aa and af. I'll be really grateful if Chaz and Coriolis could input on this since you guys own these laptops and its best to get some information from you guys, well for Coriolis you've moved up to the v6va but i know that you once owned a z70va. :) And one more small thing how is the screen interpolation on these lappies like I know native res is 16x12 but does it look terrible at 10x7? And I was looking forward to buy from Canadasys at markham. Thanks in advance guys.

Well, I don't really know of any Sager dealers in Canada, let alone Toronto, so I'm not sure if I can recommend buying one(I Guess import from the States?). But if you want to see how CS:S runs, email Danny at CanadaSys, and see if you can set up an appointment of some sort, bring your CS:S cd, and I'm pretty sure he'll let you install it and test it out yourself.

I'm no FPS gamer, so I can't say what res and frames you'll get.

I play at 1680x1050 (WSXGA+) on my 5320 with 4X AF and 2X AA just fine, looks wonderful. With a bit of overclocking, 4X AA is fine too.

Thanks a whole bunch once again. Umm Chaz if you get time in the near futre could you please run the stress test at 1024x768 with and without 2xaa n 4xaf.

    Sure thing -

    1024x768, 0X AA, Trilinear:
    106.97FPS

    2X AA, 4X AF:
    76.7FPS

    That's default clocks.

Thats just beautiful thanks alot chaz, this cleared up alot of my issues now i can finally go and get me a decent sized notebook :)
but im guessing if I do get the z70va my fps would be a tad lower than yours because of the asus stock clock on gpu n ram and the 128mb but i think that should be ok, because thats the only one available here in Toronto, Id love to get sager but unfortunately sager does not like us canadians lol :(

once again thankyou very much. :p

Well, they might be a few frames lower, but you'll get 50+ FPS for sure. The Asus is a LOT more portable than the Sager, trust me on this . . the Sager isn't a great traveling companion. Also, it only gets about 2.5 hours on battery, if that is a concern.

www.Eurocom.com ships to Canada, and they have the 5320 (sold as the M560A Divine), although they are very expensive.

I think that in Canada, a Z70VA is your best bet. ;)

RGR that chaz I also think that the z70va is my best bet, but do you have any ideas how the z81sp with the 6800go 256mb would compare remember the only game i will play is CS:s and i play competitive cs, and i know for a fact that ati cards are optimized for source engine, figured that out with my x1900xtx cross fire. 7800gt didnt cut it for me lol umm but all in all thanks alot for your time you've been very helpful and gave great advice. :)

With CS:S, the Go6800 will run it even better, but if you want decent portability and battery life, the Z81-SP isn't going to do it for you . . 2.1" thick, around 8-10lbs, probably under 1.5 hours of life.

Anything over 50FPS is gravy. :)

You have an X1900? Awesome, that's officially kick ***. :D

yeah i mean im guessing if were to get the z81sp thats like another xps which i dont want, too heavy to wide. so im going to go with the z70va but some z71v reviews are also giving me second thoughts $1400cdn I can get me a pretty nicely configured one. what are your thoughts on the go 6600, ur like a notebook guru, where as my knowledge is solely based on pc hardware and networking. Ohh and i have 2 x1900's :) its super kick ***

2 x x1900's awesome. That must be an insane rig . . you are envied by us mobile users. :D

The design of the Z71V is not so great in my opinion, and although the build quality is good, it is not as good as the Z70VA. The Z71V is ABS Plastic, whereas the Z70VA is carbon-fiber - stiffer, and lighter.

I'd go for the Z70VA if you can spend that, it is well worth the money. If you just want a lower priced notebook, then the Z71V will be fine . . just you are not getting as nice of a notebook.

The Go6600 won't have any problems with CS: S. You'll still have great performance in Counter Strike. Not much of a GPU is required for that game. ;)

I don't even want to know how many FPS you get on those dual cars . . hehe

Affermative Chaz, it does look kind of chunkier and somewhat plasticky, I dont want to spend more than $1800 and within that price range I can get a z70va with a 2ghz cpu and 1 gb of memory with 80gb 7200rpm hdd. Ill be taking another gb stick from my xps as i dont game on it that much anymore. ohh the cards lol now i dont bother checking the fps anymore because i know itl pump out some insane high frames but, my monitor is a 24 inch samsung and the res is 16x12 and on my stress test at that res with 6xaa and 8xaf get arround 245fps give or take 5. Thats stock im planning on some ocing soon but for now this should do main reason is for F.e.A.r and its very scary lol.

Wow, I'm blown away by those numbers . . beautiful hardware. :)

Be sure to get Call of Duty 2!

1GB of memory sounds good, I would get the single stick and then add another. I'd definitely recommend more than 1GB for gaming. I noticed a big difference when I upgraded from 1 to 2GB. Same with my desktop.

Ohh yeah call of duty is 95% done "good old torrents" cant wait to play it lol, looks really good even on my buddies xbox 360 but i prefer the classic mouse n keyboard for fps games. And yeah i was planing on getting a single 1gb stick rather than two 512's first of its cheaper and it wont go to waste later on when i want to upgrade.

If you want more processing power go with the Sager, it has a better version of the x700 mobility, better ram.

I suggest selling your Dell XPS system, even though it has a nice videocard, and use that money for your Sager or Z70Va.

Maybe sell it and buy the Sager or Z70Va and set yourself up with a nice desktop for hardcore gaming. You can setup a nice gaming desktop these days for less than 1500 CDN.

If you're in Toronto I could build you one for a good price :D

    Cheers,
    Mike

Thanks for the suggestion Mike, I was thinking about selling my xps. But I already built a decent gaming rig with a athlon 64 fx 57 "o'ced to 3.2ghz :D ", 4gb of pc3200 ocz ram el series, and two wd raptor 150gb hdd's in raid 0, and two x1900xtx's in crossfire. But didn't have money for a good sound card, im using onboard it shucks  .

I got all my parts from canada computers from pacific mall I got pretty good deals on everything cuz my buddy works there. If you ever need something from there I could get you a discount.

But the sagers are not availaible here in toronto or even Canada what a bummer. But thanks for the advice.

Mike maybe you could do me a little favour considering that you own a z70va, if you had CS:S could you run the stress test in 1024x768 res with everything on high water reflect all/ and once with 2xaa and 4xaf just so i could compare the fps to Chaz's more powerfull x700.

    Thanks

    Adnan

Well, you can get Sager's in Canada - www.eurocom.com. They sell their own version of it. Very expensive, $1599 starting Canadian for the M560A (5320), and it only has a Celeron.
