All of these run in an emulator inside your Web browser, kinda like a browser-based DOSBox, I guess. No plugins needed as far as I'm aware.
Some standouts include the original Prince of Persia, Wolfenstein 3D, Commander Keen, Duke Nukem 3D, Doom, The Incredible Machine, Dune, Street Fighter II, The Oregon Trail, and Wasteland.
Most of this stuff predates me, but I'm sure some of you old farts will get a kick out of it.![]()
On a similar note, the Internet Archive's Internet Arcade and Console Living Room also have massive collections of in-browser classic arcade and console games.

Sounds interesting but can't get any of them to play. It gets to main screen but have no controls.
-
Edit: I also read that the guy handling this project is pulling metadata from MobyGames, so maybe controls will be posted in the near future. It's all in beta right now. -
Lol, just tried Stunt Driver (loved that game when it first came out!) and it still has the original "go to page 43 of manual yadayada" security upon launch. I'm sure my manual was tossed out a handful of moves and three states ago
Seems this isn't exactly seemless yet. -
OMG! Stunt Driver! I loved that game too! LOL about the manual entry though.
-
Stunt driver was probably my favorite game from that era.. after a game called 4d Driving
Does any stale fart here remember that?Last edited by a moderator: May 12, 2015katalin_2003 likes this. -
You old men
.. I grew up playing Contra, Mario and other arcade games on one of those chinese generic consoles which cost $80 singapore dollars... My 1st PC game was Crinsom Skies and I still miss playing the Crinsom Skies high road to revenge on the Xbox... Then I went into medal of honour, BF1942 and onwards... Never had a chance to play stunt drivers etc and actually never heard of it till now..

Crimson Skies was the best. I would love a remake of that as long as they kept it true to the original. Great gameplay, lots of fun. As far as driving, I really wish there was a remake of NFS 5 Porsche Unleashed. I had so much fun with that game.

Another vote for Crimson Skies and High Road to Revenge. Played the sh*t out of those back in the day.
Didn't play much of the NFS series except NFS III: Hot Pursuit. The graphics (esp. reflections on the cars), physics, and damage modeling were amazing back then. Also had a ton of fun playing split-screen with my buddies.
FYI if you have trouble running any of these DOS games in a browser, you can grab the zip file from the URL and run it locally in DOSBox.
Just exit out of the Internet Archive beta site, run the game, and change the URL to download the zip file.

Why would you do that. By and large the Xbox 360 had very few good exclusives compared to the original Xbox.

I LOVE NFS Porsche. Months spent on it. The best NFS game for sure, as well as the best soundtrack on pretty much any game so far (IMO). I've recently tried to run it again and after couple of days fighting with it (including, but not limited to virtual machines) I gave-up. It's stuck at 640x480 and that's it. Beat the hell out of everyone around, even older gamers, while driving auto... Then learned to shift... Boy, was everyone hating me
GT1 through the Alps, getting the 78 turbo to the finish line without damage, gear setups, brake balance, tire pressure etc. I can go on and on. Incredible game! Couldn't beat only one record - Monte Carlo 4 (forgot if reversed or not), maybe I'll try harder to run it, so I can beat that as well
Oh and my nick name back then was "turbo", wonder with two more what I can do
As for the site, it's nice to see Test Drive II there, but it not working so far. Also two of my favorites - Test Drive and Test Drive II: The Duel (over-revving hard that 959).

Porsche Unleashed was THE game to play on the old Atom N270 netbooks, was actually really impressive on my old MSI Wind with Windows XP. Hot Pursuit 2 was also great, I still have all the Need for Speed games up to Underground 2 on disc somewhere, no joy getting them working with my laptops now though. Is there anywhere you can buy digital versions? Tried Origin but could only find Pro Street and onwards.
Btw Moonstone is also among those DOS games! Saw Sim Ant too, still have that on floppy somewhere. -
I played NFS Underground 1 and 2 and loved both of them.. Still have the disks... Well Xbox is here.. Time to fire it up later..

With regards to my Xbox journey, I've finished Crinsom Skies and it was epic.. Too bad Xbox live for it has been junked... Finished Halo Reach Campaign and now playing Halo 3 ODST campaign
.. Looks like I need to get Xbox Live membership to play online which is a bummer..

Just found out there's a UT2004 remake in the works, that's ... not good (was a bit too addictive). Worse is that the gameplay looks like a 1:1 copy of the original, so probably won't take long to get used to ... would rather have a remake of single-player Unreal; could finish at hardest difficulty and that'd be it, instead of ' ahh, come on ... one more match ... hell, it's 3 AM!'
.
-
Are you referring to the UT reboot that was announced last year is currently in development?
-
Yes, think so, there's a few alpha release videos on yt.
