I'm also interested in the possibilites presented by an empty mini-PCI slot. Did anyone else notice that the SSD linked above also has two micro USB ports on it? I guess my wireless mouse transciver is going internal! :D

It may work but 16gb for a master drive is not big enough for vista, if you are looking at it for storage, you can get jump drivers, bigger and cheaper.

choder, that is also a reason for which I want to try this experiment.

flynnaz, I know it's not enough for Vista. I'm currently only running XP, so I would rather test it out with a 16GB version first (financial decision).

Dont think theres an option to boot startup from a mini-PCI.

There might be a way using a boot loader to load up an OS from the SSD drive.

If it where me I would go with a 64bit os and 4gb of ram.

flipfire, are you sure about that?
I know that some options are hidden until the port detects storage. So maybe that is the case with the mini pci-e port.

flynnaz, I find 64bit OS still a bit buggy with some programs, and my P-6831FX only has 2.5GB RAM right now anyways.

Mini-pci wasnt really designed for disk booting. Havent seen a BIOS that allows you boot directly from it.

    But could be possible...

I saw the intel 16gb SSDs for cheap on ebay. Someone might want to try it out ;)

I plan on trying it out with a Runcore SSD because even if this does not work, I still plan on using it in my EEE PC.

    So it's all good :D

I couldn't even boot from my eSATA port so I very much doubt you can boot from the mini PCIe.

Yes, let us know of the results :)

My thoughts too, but if you use a bootloader on a HD, you might be able to point out the OS in the mini-PCI SSD

Really, that's interesting. What bootloader could be used to point to Vista or Win7 on another drive then?

Probably a Linux based bootloader since they are very customisable.

Im currently using Ubuntu/Vista/XP using the GRUB bootloader.

The bootloader would need drivers to be able to see the PCIe though surely?
