I just picked up a refurbed p7805u off tigerdirect. Maybe its a bad notebook and that could be the issue, but before I send it back I was hoping to see if anyone else had these issues.

Running both vista 64 and win7x64 with 176-186 whql, xfastest, and dox drivers I have had the same issue. about 5-15 mins into any game I get a lockup. Blank screen and sound skipping. Only way out is a hard reboot. I dont have a program that can monitor temps at the time of the crash but frequent checks to hwmonitor while gaming have showed the gpu leveling off at 60-65ish, and all the others seem in order as well? Has anyone else been experience this type of system crash? If I can't fix it in the next few days I'm just gonna return it.

The very first generation of drivers for windows 7 were very stable. try those if you can find them.

okay so a few mins into left 4 dead i got what appears to be the same error ive always had. Except this time it was a BSOD. And rebooted on its own. I couldn't catch the error number but the generic error was BUGCODE USB. Im guessing I need to reinstall my usb drivers? I would be soooo stoked if this was the problem

apparently the bsod was due to problematic bsod drivers, got that fixed. Now I am back to full lockup requiring hard reboot. Probably the same problem as before. But now there is no sound glitching and instead of the screen being blank its just freezes whatever was on screen

They are sending me out an asus g50vt-x5 its advertised with a 9800m gt. hopefully they arent lying. either way, Im done with Gateway FOREVER. they have the worst support ive ever had the displeasure of dealing with. Thanks for all the help guys. maybe Ill see you on the asus forums

Yeah I made sure to ask if they knew whether it came with the GS or GT. they said if it was the GS I could return for full price shipping on them anytime, because that would be a marketing error. So if its the GS ill pretty much just be borrowing it from them until the next killer deal comes along

well sry to tell yah but my bro has that laptop and it is a 9800m gs which isnt too bad considering the latop runs at a lower res then the gateway. but the easiest way to tell is to load up gpu z and check how many shaders the vid card has if its 64 then its a gs. i think the gt was something like 96 shaders it doesnt make that much of a difference though since both cards are restricted to 16 rops. if anything maybe you could save up for a 7807 or a similar priced sager or msi notebook

I get the same problems the OP was having, but my 7805 was brand new, only drivers it does not happen on are the stock driver that came with it, and dox 182.05. I am only halfway through the warranty period, thinking of sending it in for repairs. Maybe ill get lucky and they will send one back with a 1900x1200 screen. :D
