I'm still thinking whether I shall I go for the overpriced warranty that offered by Best Buy(Black Tie Protection). This could be a good stuff because as sometime later we might Ops! I dropped this laptop and get a new one(similar price when purchased).
So, I hope this poll can help me and some others to determine whether we shall go for it and whether it worth the money that we pay for.![]()
Please come in and vote.
Edit: Thanks prius and WastedTracy for the heads up.
I meant the 3-year "Accidental Damage from Handling Performance Service Plan" for $349 instead of the Black Tie Protection as it covers the accidental damage.

Nope, go with SquareTrade.
Better service, better coverage, lower price. You have the Jakamo5 guarantee.
By the way, here's a quick trick when using Squaretrade:
Buy something small for your laptop, like a new mouse or something, or a new hard drive even. Put it under warranty with Squaretrade. Then Squaretrade will email you giving you a large percentage off of your next warranty. Use that for your laptop. You'll save lots of money and also you will have two items under warranty instead of one.
To be honest, I think the only people who buy Best Buy warranties are the people who don't know about Squaretrade, which is unfortunately a lot of people. -
Or are planning on their laptop having a long fall off a short, well whatever, right in time to get a new one before the waranty ends
-
Also, should we buy the squaretrade after Gateway's warranty ends or we shall buy it right away? -
I was looking into SquareTrade also but gateway does give you a one year warranty. Does gateway give you an option to renew or extend your warranty when the first year expires? I wondering this because if they do SquareTrade isn’t really needed if the price of the renew isn’t expensive also in one year there will be better laptops available. Do you know how long from purchase date can you get a warranty for your laptop from Squaretrade?
You can get 10% off squaretrade using code ALWAYSOFF -
I don't know there timeframe (just go to the site) but like any warranty you have a certain number of days to purchase it. Which logically makes sense, so people can't add a warranty for a broken product.
And really the amount of people insinuating that they are going to break there laptop and get a brand new one is ridiculous. People just stop already, or at least stop openly talking about it on the forums. -
nope geek squad is noob. they screwed up one of my computers...
-
Are you talking about accidental handling warrentee. If you are it is well worth it... if you have the extra $$$ laying around. I got it ( AHW), and when the new laptop I wanted came out (2 years later), I tried using mine as trampline (also because it was a little weathered) and they gave me the brand new one for the same price I purchased the original. The only problem you may have is...if it is repairable they will fix it instead of giving you a new one. Make sure it is toasted beyond repair (that's what the BB pc dpt manager told me). It does take about 2 weeks, but it's worth it.

Frankly, if I *had* to choose between the two plans, I'd pick the $349 plan. For ~$149 more, you get an extra year of *total* coverage along with 3 full years of accidental damage insurance.
Regardless, anyone thinking about intentional destruction might want to consider the following:
...Accidental damage from handling is defined as: "Unintentional damage to a product as a result of daily usage; such as spills and drops." Immersion in liquid is not covered. ADH covers product from normal daily usage and the way the manufacturer intended the product to be used. -
no, no and no..
to the OP -
-
Yeah, I wouldn't think you'd be called on a claim considering the price of that plan. I mean, it's almost one-third the cost of a new unit......at current prices.
Still, I imagine they could give you a hassle *if* there was evidence of extreme abuse and/or the damage was extraordinary (as in it looked like you had David Ortiz toss it up and smack the thing into the right field fence). -
I bought the plan when i got my 7805, it was 299$, a week later i thought about it, if this was a 5 year plan it would be worth it. But 299$ for two years? 700$ more and i would just buy another 7805.
I went back to best buy and returned the geek squad warranty. -

I'm almost positive SquareTrade doesn't begin its warranty until Gateway's ends, even if you buy it ahead of time.
And if not, they're very easy to talk to over the phone. They love to "make exceptions" for people. -
So you can get the SqureTrade Warranty rite before the gateway one expires?
-
It appears as if a lot of this stuff is spelled out on the Square Trade site:
How long do I have to buy a SquareTrade Care Plan?
For items bought from retailers: You have 90 days from your purchase date to buy a SquareTrade warranty, but we recommend acting sooner as ADH protection is only available 30 days from the purchase date....ADH must be added to your Care Plan at the time of Care Plan purchase; it cannot be added retroactively. ADH coverage begins on the 31st day after the item's purchase - issues in the first 30 days are not covered.
HOW LONG IT LASTS
If your item is new and has a US manufacturer's warranty of at least 90 days ("MSP"), this Service Agreement begins the day you purchased the item and lasts for the number of years of coverage you specify at purchase time.
Claims (for laptops)
For laptops, we send out a pre-paid express shipping kit specially made to keep your computer safe during transit. It's sent back the same way. -
Do NOT...I repeat. Do NOT get a Square Trade Warranty. I already did this and when I had a problem with my tv. They simply said, they can't do the repair work as it cost more than what it cost to buy the tv. They said they could give me a refund of what I paid for the tv, but what good does that do me when I need the tv fixed? The whole purpose of having a warranty is to have a peace of mind, that they will take care of your product, no questions asked. Now, if I had done something to the tv, that would be another story. But, the tv just stopped working and it would not turn back on. The first thing that bothered me with this, was they didn't even bother to have the tv inspected. It was too heavy to ship. I offered to bring it to a local service shop or they could have someone come out and check it out for themselves. they said they don't have one local to my area. I live in southern california, in a very populated area. How can they not have a service tech in my area? It's a big scam and when you need to make a claim, they just refund you the money you paid for the tv, but lose out on the money I spent on the warranty plan. I had to sell the tv for $50 just to get it out of my house, then go buy another one, adding money to it as well. I would rather deal with Best Buy warranties as I can take it to their store or they will come out to my house. The Square Trade Warranty does not have the coverage if you drop it as well.
[Poll] P-7805u Best Buy warranty, yes or no?
