anyone run bad company 2 on the 7811fx? Hows the performance, framerate and settings? Since there is no demo to check it out i'd like to know before i order the game.
thx
-
I pre-ordered the game it will arrive at 5/3/010
I can post some results. I just hope i will be able to enjoy the game as graphics are concerned.
Do you know any good way to count the framerate? (dont know if BC2 has a build-in counter)
Psy -
i dont know about a ingamecounter, but fraps should do it i guess. I think the game should run fairily well since its desighned for 360 and ps3 aswell, but i think the 2.25 duocore might be a little bit on the low side. Please post your test results, much appreciated
-
Sadly not too well. I've got everything on low and it still gets bogged down. Running stock everything on Win7 x64
-
hrm, damn, really? How can that be when it runs ok on the 360?
-
thats bad news for bad company...
You think the bottleneck could be the CPU? I have an X9100 processor but havent installed it yet. Maybe i can try with both CPUs and come back to you guys...
**Edit
You know, its strange to hear that you cant run it even at lowest settings. I run EVE online with all graphic settings maxed and never falls under 30fps even with lots of action on screen.
Maybe the physics engine... -
im a little stunned aswell since my eyperience with the 7811 tells me all games that run on the 360 are not a match for it.
-
I run this game at 1400x900 (even though I have a 1900x1200 screen) Medium settings 8XQ AA, 8X AF and it runs pretty smooth on a p7805u. Haven't done an acutal frame test but its smooth.
-
-
Just a little update: I'm OCing my 7811 now and running it at 1920x1200 with all medium except for effects, and x2 AA. It looks sweet and runs on average around 30fps but still bogs down to single digits sometimes.

Hey andros is it a cpu intensive game? Will those with the stock 7805 cpu get the same results as you if they have their gpu oc'd?
-
I haven't installed the game yet, but I played the beta for a while. I tested settings pretty thoroughly, and from what I can tell, below 1650x1080, changing graphics settings doesn't have much effect. Maxing everything out is a bit beyond the 7811, but there is virtually no difference between medium and low settings in terms of framerate. So basically it's a CPU bound game for me most of the time. And I have a T9800, so it's definitely CPU bound for a stock 7811. I was getting about 35 fps average. That's my conservative estimate anyway, it's probably a little higher. But that was the beta. From what I've heard, they've improved dual core support with the final release and optimized things overall. Even still, the bottleneck will still be the CPU. I can't say for sure what the p8400 would get with the final build though. Probably around 30 fps average, but that's just my guess.
Also, saying a game runs "smooth" is kind of meaningless. I know plenty of people who consider anything more than 24 fps to be smooth. I consider anything less than 35 fps to be a little jerky when I'm using a mouse and keyboard. Since everyone has different standards for this, just download fraps and post your average. That will eliminate all ambiguity. -
-
i bought it today and it runs fine on my stock 7811, 1920x1200 and advanced high settings. 1aa, 1ani.
-
The only thing that seems to mess with me is smoke and explosions.
-
actually i put the shadow detail to low, and now it runs perfectly.

i play the game perfectly fine at all high settings (except AA) and my fps although not sure what they are seems fluid. im not playing at mega high res though as my p78 has the 1440x900 screen
-
This game cooks my cpu temperature. In game this translates to butter smooth graphics and then massive slowdown. It alternates between the two. I have a p7805u. Suggestions?
-
I'm running this game on my 7811FX since beta.
All high(except med shadows, 1AA,4AF,HBAO off) at 1900x1200. The fps is smooth enough for single and multiplayer (maybe coz of T9900 upgrade
BTW, guys try disabling bloom in the settings.ini to false. It helped alot. I'm very happy w/ this laptop running the newest games just fine -
-
how are you guys changing settings? all i can see is Rez options and overall quality. Oh and 1920x1200 with med and above settings is impossible.
-
select the "advanced" in the overall quality. Also, in "My Documents" then BFBC2 folder look for settings.ini and open it with notepad. Just change the values from TRUE to FALSE to disable that option. -
thanks. after turning off some options i can play in native resolution and high settings after i did some tweaking in ntune. May just play in D9 though for those extra frames.
MP is hard as hell but fun. -
MP gets a tiny bit easier once you start unlocking better weapons and getting support skills.

Check this tweak guide out: http://www.fragcast.org/?p=433
-
If some of you are having trouble, just run it on 1440x900(it's supposed to be the native resolution for a 17" size) you can now probably run it on high.
I don't have a 7811FX but with my G71GX i can run it on all high with 4xAA, and 4xAF. -
Since noone wants give give out FPS's and instead say "runs smooth to me", I'll start.
7805u stock, no tweaks of any kind, Windows 7 X64 bit. I'm running at 30-35 fps at lowest resolution and Medium settings. pretty slow but manageable.
anything to speed the fps outside of cpu upgrade would be helpful. If you've done it to your own, let me know your fps. -
What drivers are you using, thats most important i think. I am running 195.62 drivers and i can say its not even smooth in low settings and 1280x768 resolution... haevnt made any tweaks yet.

ok i finally finished reinstalling my laptop (i didnt want raid anymore)
anyway i got fraps setup to take screen shots every 10 seconds and i played for a little bit to get a good average on the fps (fps is displayed on most of the screenshots) i also took a few without the fps counter in the corner to show what the game looks like with the settings i used without those yellow numbers in the way.
http://img692.imageshack.us/slideshow/webplayer.php?id=bfbc2game20100310152538.png
the fps isnt super high but it is easily playable because it stays fairly consistent at 30 fps. I get better performance from this game then i do operation flashpoint dragon rising.
EDIT: oh im running driver 196.86
EDIT 2: I just noticed screenshot 12. I shot some guy in the face lol -
I would strongly suggest against forcing DX9 in BC2. I changed that and the "renderahead" in the settings.ini and found that the windows and glass became far less transparent. Made flying, driving, and shooting the riot-shielded .50 cal a bit difficult.
Now if I could just find a way to minimize or eliminate the dust and smoke effects... -

I get ~20 fps in bad company. I turned bloom off. I have a stock cpu but when I look at the graph of cpu usage, my cpu isn't maxed out in game. However when I look at gpu-z, my gpu load is 99%. Andros how did you get amazing performance like that? Any game tweaks that you could suggest? Maybe a different driver would make a small difference?
There is a ton of heat coming out of my gpu and the stats say it's under 100% load, however Andros has gotten exceptional performance and I'm not sure if it has to do with the cpu. -

The more I play this the more I think it is gpu limited

Definite solution to the nvlddmkm video crash on the P-7805u!"), not through Ntune or other software. That actually makes a difference in my book. The clocks I use right now are 720/915/1825 and these are the highest stable clocks I can achieve without graphical errors or excessive heat with the 196.xx drivers.
And referring to the ingame settings, I would turn AA to 1x, and AF to 1x, and most importantly shadows to Medium. Medium shadows actually look really good, basically they keep the high res shadows for up-close action and lower rez shadows far away. I run the game at 1920x1200, but you will get better fps @ 1400x900 if that's what your running it on. -

Cool thanks Andros I will give it a try.
I have a 1920X1200 screen
I had AA at 1X and AF at 1X and it was still kind of laggy but not nearly as bad as default settings. I will give the gpu oc a go later tonight. -

its kinda weird that when all hell breaks loose my fps dont really drop much but it stay at about 28-30 fps regardless of how much stuff is going on. the difference in fps for me with aniso at x16 and it at x1 is like 4 frames. the killers in performance that i have found are the AA and HbAo settings. i also gotta mention that this is not the most up to date version of the game either. its what ever version was on the disc. i heard that the update does improve performance but i at this point dont play that game much so i havent updated it yet.

Andros I went to your tut. but the file you posted shows an error when I try to extract it. I'm not sure what the speeds were in that file though. What clocks did you use for all of the settings in NiBiTor? I assume that is what you used. I want to give it a go but I don't know what the clocks should be at.
Thanks -

I think my gpu downclocked itself because it was too hot or something, but is there any way I can get back the original clocks without restarting the laptop?
-
Andros has t9900 of course it doesn't lag. This game is cpu limited, no doubts.
-
crazysoccerman14 Notebook Consultant
How do you know that? I have the stock cpu. One core is at 90% and the other is at 40%... and my gpu is at 99%.
-
The only thing that seems to choke me is smoke/dust. Everything else is fine set to low/off with "detail" set to medium.
-
crazysoccerman14 Notebook Consultant
It may be the cpu that is limiting. I have been playing for a while now and the moments I have the largest slowdowns are when there are a bunch of enemies (I only have single player). Most times when it is a cut scene or when I am running/driving without many enemies the 7805 does a good job at staying above 24 fps.
To get what I consider pretty amazing performance, I over volted my gpu from 1.07 to 1.25. It's high but the hottest my gpu got was 70. I set the clocks to 720/1800/950 and found that the higher voltage made them more stable. However I found the game most stable at those high clocks and voltage when I used Dox 182.05. I also undid my cpu underclock, however I don't think it had as much of an effect as overvolting my gpu and bumping up the clocks. -
im ordering a desktop just so i can play maxed at 60FPS. im tired of my mouse lagging behind. hard as hell to kill someone like that.
-
i just got this game and it runs well on my system. all settings are on high except medium shadows, 1xAA/AF and hbao off @ 1440x900. i average 35 fps with dips into the 20's during intense action.
''Bad Company 2'' performance on the 7811FX?
