Has anyone figured out a way to play high quality 1080p .mkv files on this machines stock hardware configuration?

VLC stutters too much. Coreavc video codec with wmp seems to have the smoothest playback but still stutters quite a bit during some scenes. I have tried various different media players with no luck.

Has anyone found a media player or codec that manages to do this? Could this be an Nvidia driver issue? I have tried several different ones with no luck. I think I am missing something.

Yeah thats something wrong , cuz i watch 1080p mkv files on my desktop P4 3.0Ghz without problems , i just use Gomplayer and Klite Mega Codec pack and work just fine to me, i am sure its not a hardware compatibility problem

Well i dont know whats wrong with yours i played 1080p iron man over HDMI on a second virtual desktop to my Samsung 1080- 52'' while i played a 720p dvd rip of soul eater on my machine. Thanks to smart audio i can select the channels and the pc handled both tasks with np.

However WMP does ugly screen tearing, Zoomplayer upscales horribly, Clasic media player works with np everything looks amazing :) what do i use? CCC pack (google for it). as simple as that.

I had the same problem as you and I made a thread about it earlier and now 1080p plays as smooth as butter. Here is what you do:

    1) Install Windows Media Player Classic (easily found searching google)
    2) Install FFDSHOW Codec (also easily found on google)
    3) Install CoreAVC Codec (Find a Torrent) (Make sure to install Haali Media Splitter that comes with it)

Its weird because when I installed CoreAVC alone it was still stuttering so i uninstalled it. Then I installed FFDShow and it was stuttering again so I uninstalled it. Then I had the crazy idea of installing both of them and to my suprise everything plays smoothly. No Stuttering at any point of any movies; also Media Player Classic is fast, it doesn't take any time to load the video or audio if you forward the video.

    Hope this helps!!!

Try CCCP, the soviet codec pack lol. I use it mainly for anime and it does an excellent job. Never had an issue playing 1080p movies either.

ok well start the movie (ironman) streaming to hdmi right so right now everything is fine. go to controlpanel sound and there change the defualt from HDMI to Speaker or Headphones the movie sound will continue to play from hdmi but if you open a new media player that one will stream to the new default option :) so im able to run 3 things with 3 different audio channels one from headphones one from blueetooth headphones and the other one from the hdmi one. you could actually run 4 if you use the computers speakers :)! try it out.

lol good one i can see how that will work, its basically based on the bug that the audio will change to deafult port only after you'll restart the application using the sound stream. good one.

I too had troubles playing back 1080p .mkv files on my notebook. With VLC Player or GOMPlayer, the playback would stutter and audio-visual massively out of sync.

Then I tried Cowon JetAudio software and to my joy discovered that it could play them perfectly, without any special codecs or tweaking.

You might want to give it a try.

No. Just no. Install a light codec pack that has only what you need, not the bloat that is klite.

You can even just install ffdshow with the MKV directshow filter and you're good too. Don't even need a codec pack.
