Hello all,
Tried to search for cooling pad, but I'm no genius with boolean search strings, so I got like 150 returns... Not gonna sift through all that...
Was hoping someone out there could recommend a cooling pad for the FX series 17" laptop. I have a P7805U, which I think has the same vent configuration as all the other FX 17" models.
Any insight or feedback is appreciated!

NZXT Cryo Lx works pretty well for me.
other have reported using Zalman NC2000s which work just as well. -
The local store here in Hawaii had a Thermaltake Massive23, and sadly it was horrible. It fit the base of the laptop perfectly, but there was absolutely zero change in core temps using that thing with its single 220mm fan.
Because I live in Hawaii, I was gonna end up paying about $30 extra shipping to get the NZXT or Zalman coolers, so I decided to take a little adventure and build a custom cooler.
I made it out of a 16"x13" wire mesh drawer organizer I picked up from Office Depot. Flipped it over and put two 80mm fans right under the intakes of the CPU and GPU cooling fans on the laptop. Got a little nifty with a power LED, Switching potentiometer for speed control, and a dedicated 12V 1A power supply (wall wart type) with proper connection so I didn't have to cut the tip from the power supply.
Been running Prime 95 now for about 15 minutes and the core temps haven't gotten higher than 72C. That's about 13C lower than I was running with no cooler. Pretty fabulous results considering it was case fans from an old desktop I wasn't using anymore. I don't have temp readings from the hard drives, but I'll probably throw a couple of fans under the hard drives as well to keep them cool since this has been very effective.
Cost me about $30 in parts from Office Depot and Radio Shack. -
i wish i lived in hawaii

I bought my 7805u in 2/09 with the zalman 2000 and it's still working well. i use the zalman with my sager now but the fans are a bit weak but still working.

I personally just went on fleabay and bought one of those DIRT cheap generic "3-fan laptop coolers" with the blue LED's. they have worked so well i bought another 3 for my Xbox and and my brother and one for spares... been going strong for about 2 years now (needs cleaning every so often to clear dust but other than that - Excellent).
The only thing i would suggest is if you are getting one of these generic ones, the ones with the built in fans (i.e non-removable) are garbage... the ones with removable 60mm fans are excellent!
Good luck,
Demon
