Hey guys, I have two more questions about ordering. When the centrino 2 chipset comes out, is GW likely to lower prices on the current 172 FX notebook, or will they more likely discontinue production and upgrade to a model using centrino 2 for the same price as before?

Also, what would be the best approach to getting a discount? Calling or chat? Hinting that I want one or outright asking for one? Saying that my budget is $xxxx or under or just letting them offer one?

    Thanks,

    Dan

they will probably lower prices on the notebook until they run out of stock, then start producing the new ones at the previous price.

i got a 100 bucks off on my M-152XL to bring it down to 899 via chat...i told the sales rep that dell was giving me a similarly speced inspiron 1720 for a flat 1000 after coupon and we haggled till the price was dropped a 100 bucks.

one guy on the forums recommends telling them that "it will be easier buying from best buy", and they will give you something to entice you to buy direct.

Hahaha... well, that would probably work for the S FX but not the X FX... they're not selling anything similar at BB! If anyone knows a slighty higher spec'd notebook selling for only a slightly higher price, let me know so I can use that too.

You can get at lest 10% off from a gateway rep, then hagel over the warranty if you want one.

What can I expect them to give me warranty wise? Free or discounted? Also, I think I read on these forums about people getting 15-20% discount. 20 is ridiculous, but do you think it's possible I could get them to give me 15? Or is that highly unlikely?

I got something like 23% off , but that was when they where in preorder and the reps could pull it off, and right before Acer bought them out. I got the three year with accidental damage warranty for $149.99 not bad. Try Rico for a sales rep, he gave me a great deal, and has help many posters here too. Tell him you hear about him from this site, it may help, he is great to work with.

How do you get in touch with Rico? Does he have an email known to NRF members?
