    speaking of that gull durn program....before i even THINK about using it, i should have an empty external hard drive before i begin to use acronis for RAID backups, correct?

    if not, how would i create a backup using my 1tb external (esata) with 377 gb free?

    If your e-sata port works, that's the best awy I know. Acronis lets you set the level of compression, and you can even have it verify the backup in its options. Best of all, its disk has Bart PE, so works in a DOS like enviroment for recovery or cloning after wipe of OS or restoring.
