I accidently deleted a PM someone sent me asking how i got my 3dmark06 score, but i deleted it somehow and i'm not sure who it was. so i figured i'd make another 10k 3dmark06 score thread to help show that person and whoever else is interested how i did it in my sig.

    1. Updated my drivers. not sure the particular one i used for the 3dmark score in sig, but all recent drivers have scored me in the same ball park, give or take 100points or so.
    2. I downloaded ntune and used the clocks in my sig 698/988/1798 (recomended by E-wrecked) These clocks are 100% stable for every day use, however, after a couple weeks of using them full time, i decided to be cautious and made a profile in the Nvidia control panel that uses stock clocks and only loads these when running programs i asigned. if your using nvidia laptop drivers i believe Ntune comes with the drviers. so no need to download it seperate.
Steps 1 and 2 alone got me up to the mid 9000's
    3. Last thing you gotta do is UPGRADE YOUR CPU. with some insane tweaks and unstable clocks you may be able to break 10k with everything stock but upgrading your CPU will give that extra 1000 or so points to do it "safer".

Hope this helps whoever PMed me and whoever else may read...

Caution: every PC and gpu are different. what works for mine may not work for yours and i am not responsible for the combustion (or any harm) of anyones pc.

It was me who PMed you.
I have same comp as you with t9600.
    I can't go past 9500 in 3dmark06..
I tried all different drivers, OC to all different speeds..Turn off the powermizer..
    I'm about to give up..
Do you use XP or Vista?
From my previous laptop, XP gave me 500-1000 more points than vista with same setting.

Is the T9600 the most efficient processor upgrade for our laptops? I would have sworn I read that in a thread here about a month ago, but I have no idea where that thread has gone :(

Whats the 3rd setting for the 9800M, the 1798? I assume 698 is the core bus and 988 is the memory bus.. I don't see any other values to change in ntune..

    I finally did it !! :D
    I got 10036 with Xfastest 177.85 OC to 700-950-1650.
When I raise the shader clock I saw FPS dropping as fan blows harder..
So, I tried to kept it lower..
Funny thing was that I achieved this score only when my USB hub and all other stuff that connected to the hub was not hooked up to the computer
Maybe, my computer's power supply is not strong enough?

    update..
with OC to 698-988-1798 & no usb hub hooked up, I got 9790..
with usb hub hooked up, I got 9060..

My conclusion is that with lower shader clock and no usb stuffs attached to the computer will resulted in higher scores.

I wanted x9100 but.. still too expensive..
T9600 was $238 with free shipping.. Can't beat it !!

I'm using the 6.03 nvidia system tools..
and under nvidia control panel, performance, device settings.. you'll see it.

Another thing everyone should keep in mind is to turn off all background process you don't need. you want all your resources to be devoted to 3dmark.

Everyone also needs to remember that not all gpu's are created equal. even same brand and same model. some gpu's just don't overclock as well as others, and once you hit that thresh hold, your score will drop fast the more you oc. you just gotta play around and find what clocks and drivers work best for your gpu.

Mormegil83 Do you get 98c on TZS0 while doing benchmarking?
I get that all the time.. must be that's what causes lower scores..

yeah that would be the problem... i have been one of the lucky ones that has never seen the tzs0 spike. Your GPU is chugging along just fine then tzs0 reads false 98c and the gpu downclocks. I've heard the tzs0 spike doesn't happen (as frequently?) if you don't OC the gpu but i have no experience with it...

I tried it and that's true.
When I OC the GPU and play games, I get really good FPS until hits 98c and FPS drops immediately.. but with stock GPU settings, none so far.
I tried it on L4D, Far Cry2 and Grid..
For Grid, I get over 40fps on max setting until 98c..then 20s fps..
Far Cry2 30s fps on max setting then low 20s fps
    L4D 60-80fps on max setting then 20-30fps..

That just means your system is working correctly, I'd be scared if it DIDN'T downclock (The reason for your FPS drops) up at that temperature. :p

well my gpu temp is only around 60s but it's the acpi tzs0 that reads false 98c ..
no cures yet.. just gotta live with it.. :(

Where did you find the T9600 for $238? The cheapest I can find is like over $500. Also is there a guide somewhere that show you how to change the CPU? I have never changed one before so I am kinda unsure how to do it but not a rookie with computers have changed easy stuff like RAM, GPU's, Hard Drives, etc...

Ebay is where to get a processor... look for an ES chip with QS stepping if you want full retail functionality. I got mine from extremeprocessor on ebay a couple months ago. he is a great seller and others have had similar experiance with him. i'm sure with a couple of searches you can find a guide, but in short,

1 power off, unplug, remove battery and hit the power button to drain all electricity from the notebook

2 remove memory cover (big panel on the underside towards back)

3 unscrew/remove heatsink and clean old thermal paste off with rubbing alcohol

4 turn cpu locking screw counter clockwise until cpu is loose (free with no resistance) and (note the orientation of the cpu) carefully remove it. (clean it for storage or selling with rubbing alcohol)

5 gently place new cpu where the old one was in the same orientation and tighten the lock-screw firmly.

6 place a very thin strip of thermal paste between the cores and replace the heatsink. be sure to press the heatsink firmly to spread the thermal paste. and screw it back into place. (tighten the screws similar to tightening the lugnuts on a tire but not too tight)

7 replace cover, battery and plug back in if you want

    8 power on and ENJOY!!!

Edit: HERE is the thread i started when i got mine, it may help

I am using the newest NVIDIA drivers and have used the recommened overclocking settings and 3Dmark06 freezes. What could be the issue? Also i closed all background and running apps while running 3Dmark06 and no better performance while running normal clocked.

Again not all GPU's are created equal and what works for one may not work for another.

    But...
It could be a temperature thing. Are you monitoring temps? what are they? have you ever cleaned dust out of the vents (blow canned air threw)? do you have the back of your notebook elevated to about the hight of a Crysis box?

Darn tootin' thats good for a 6860fx mostly has to do with the x9000 though ;)

I got mine from ebay as well .. seller was "extremeprocesor"
    ver good seller ~~
I also got AS5 from newegg and remover & cleaner too..
Installation is very easy !! follow "Mormegil83" link.
Just don't forget to put new thermal paste.. very thin layer.. use credit card or phonecard..

I would recommend T9800 over T9600 or X9100 for price and performance..
    :)
