    Evening all,

New to the forum...hope you're all having a wonderful evening.

I have a 450SX4 with unstable video (i.e. pixelated, striped, checkerboard...generally messed up). I'm wondering if it's the video card, the LCD connector or something else. I'm trying to determine if it's worth fixing.

The display seems to be affected most by any movement of the laptop...particularly changing the angle of the LCD lid. But it also occurs during or just after boot-up even if I don't touch the laptop.

Any idea what the problem may be? How might I troubleshoot this to narrow down the possibilities?

    Thanks in advance.

    Kind regards,

    Joe Martins

    Hello All,

I am experiencing the exact same problem with the exact same model of notebook.

    Gateway 450sx4

The problem is pixelated video, video artifacts, video corruption, vertical lines, checkerboard pattern, etc.

The problem happens with almost any movement of the notebook whatsoever. Occasionally it happens even with no movement.

It seems like the more you move it the worse it gets, eventually to the point where you can't make out any icons or anything on the desktop anymore.

And yes, the same problem appears when connected to an external monitor, so I guess that rules out the LCD screen itself. What is the next most likely cause? Video card/motherboard?

Any suggestions on how to narrow it down further?

    Thanks in advance. :)
