just wanted to know if anyone has seen any noticable difference between 4gb cas latency 4 vs 4gb cas latency 5 ram in the p-68xx series.

newegg prices on the g.skill 4gb ram are now priced about $30 difference due to cl5's free shipping.

and yes we all know about OS 32/64 bit limitation differences, just wanted to know if anyone has compared the cl4 ram vs the cl5 and has seen improvements.

    thx

not to thread crap, but i attempted a similar question here and got a few ideas. my impression was for the price, i would been happy to just KNOW my ram would be quicker but at the same time be willing to accept that it might not be noticable. best of luck with replies, i will be tuned in as well . .. .

What should theoretically change if you get better latency ram?

Lower latency RAM theoretically should improve performance by reducing the time it takes for data to swap in and out of memory. However, that being said, the general consensus is that dropping one whole point (ie going from CAS 5 to CAS 4) on todays already blistering fast machines, only improves performance by 4% at most. But there is some improvement. Heres a bit of info:

A little outdated, but the basic principle still applies.

When I upgraded my 6831Fx from 3GB to 4Gb of ram, I spent an extra $20 to get 800mhz vs. 667mhz . The ram of course runs down clocks to 667mhz as a result of Santa Rosa limitations. This resulted in a lower latency (CL4). For the extra 20 bucks I figured I might as well have the best I could get. If you have the money why not?!

ridermtb can you run Everest memory speed test ? not on my laptop right now so not sure exact name, but there is a test for memory throughput, then some one with same spec like you but cl5 memory can run it....
