    4x write speed on cd burner...painfully slow?

    This seems very very slow, i swear my 4 year old desktop can write cds faster if im not mistaken...

    anyway...how fast are are you alls cd burners?

    I'm used to 4x, so it doesn't seem all that bad to me. :) Usually a good rule of thumb is, to halve the maximum rated write speed, and that's what it will usually achieve (for accurate writes anyway). :)

    one question.

    gateway has this
    8x Multi-Format Dual Layer Slot Load DVD-RW w/ DVD-RAM
    for the cd drive on my M-152XL. So why is the burning program showing 4x is the max writing speed?

    It depends on the rating of your media, and your drive. For example, if you have DVD-R's that support 2.4x and 4x speed, and your drive is rated at 1x-8x, only the 2.4 and 4 speeds will be available.
    Otherwise, it might just be something with your software. I only said it's a good rule to halve your drive's maximum write speed, to know what to realistically expect from your drive.
