Hi all,
I got my 6831 about 2 months ago and am wondering how to get a good audio out from the machine.
I am a musician who uses the PC to play tracks and practice along with them and will soon be using the machine to record as well.
Can I just output to an amp to play my itunes or do I need to buy anything to use for this?
Thanks in advance!!

For analog, a 1/8 stereo to twin RCA out cable should work perfectly, as I use it for PLII HT and it works great(my projector doesn't support audio over HDMI). Digital is either 1/8 SPDIF out to coax digital, or HDMI, but be warned, from everything I have seen it is 2 channel (stereo) only.

I was looking for multi-channel digital sound out of this GAMING laptop; I may have found it.
- Purchased an optical TOSLINK cable with 1/8 in (3.5mm) adaptor.
- Connect between laptop headphone jack (out) and optical (in) on my 7.1 receiver.
- Enable SPDIF in sound control panel.
Display on receiver says 7.1 ch stereo and sounds great. All speakers active and seem to provide spatial differentiation.
I looked for this answer for a while so Im posting it here.
**Im guessing the 2-channels are decoded to 7. -
You shouldnt need to purchase an Optical Cable for that, simply use a Twin RCA to 1/8 cable. Many sound systems have the ability to use all the speakers even if the sound is only in stereo, on my system its called full stereo. Just make sure you have it setup to use full stereo and not 7.1 or you will only get sound out of the front left and right speakers.

Hmm. Maybe I didnt need to wait all that time to finally get that optical cable. I am however inputing to digital-in on my receiver which accepts only a single RCA type coax or else optical. I used to run a mono 1/8 inch to single RCA between SB live 5.1 card and digital input and worked great; true multichannel sound.
This setup didnt work for me on this laptop (6860) and when I read it had optical behind that headphone jack, I reasoned (perhaps incorrectly) that the digital out was only available via optical.
All that being said, it seems its still only 2 channel out (digital or analog) and the receiver does the job of sending it to all speakers?
