So I just received my refurbished P-6831 and it didn't come with any sort of windows restore disc nor is any sort of gateway backup software installed on the machine. It seems that a completely fresh OEM instal of Vista home Premium 32 bit was installed, which is fine by me, but what am I supposed to do if something happens and my OS is screwed? What kind of backup options do I have?

check Start < Programs < Gateway recovery
you might have it on your PC, if not check gateway.com/support

You are missing the Windows disc, thats pretty bad - but also not having the gateway backup software is even worst, your unable to install drivers without it.
I'm thinking someone formatted that machine, packaged it up and you got it without someone formatting and putting proper software on it.

What I would do - call whoever you bought it from, explain situation. It must come with windows disk, Im not sure the specs of your computer,
i have the gateway recovery program for 7811-fx, not sure if its same devices you have in a P-6831.

Sorry if my sentences might not make sense, had surgery today and loratab is nice.

Gateway recovery just isn't there, I'm sure of it. I think I'll need to call up ascendtech and see what's up with this.

Haha Loratab... basically mild heroin.. have fun with that.

Mine didn't come with a recovery partition either like how it comes stock. So if you ever have to reinstall Windows then you will have to get a standard Vista install CD. For me it was no problem because I already had Home Premium 32-bit and 64-bit.

All the drivers are at the Gateway website.
