After a Windows update my hard drive crashed. Gateway is sending me a new hard drive and it should be here in a few hours. My question is what will I have to do after installing the hard drive? Will I have to reinstall the OS with the Vista disc or should it already be loaded on the new one?

So the old hard drive isn't functioning?

Barely, it was saying all Windows based software was corrupt and it wouldn't let me restore it but it said I had use the check disk utility but I couldnt use it because the drive was in use so it told me to schedule one and then it would run into an error and close out of it. It wouldn't let me reinstall the OS. I tried to restore it back to factory settings and it kept freezing up and starting over again. So Gateway said they'd send me a new hard drive out. This all happened after 3 automatic windows updates. When I turned it on after it downloaded them it froze up and did some weird stuff while trying to install them.

It should come pre-loaded, if not you will have to down load remaining drivers from the gateway site as per others. Did you make your back up driver disk? If not call Gateway for best recourse.

No I didn't make a back up.
