No its pretty common. And nothing to really worry about unless it gets overly hot (like you can boil water hot)

Its just these machines pull everything that the 120watt brick can give and actually need a 150watt brick to have a comfortable margin for error.

But with the exception of a few people the brick you have will be fine. And you get used to the little electricity birds that chirp at you from the adapter.

If you want to upgrade, Dook found the 180watt brick and it works REALLY well. You wont hear a peep out of it and its can supply more than enough power to the system so it also runs a good bit cooler than the standard one.

I recommend it if your going to be doing any upgrades to the system (unless to a lower powered CPU) as it will help power the new upgrades easier.

If you continually bother Gateway support you can get one that doesn't hiss. I went through 3 (including the original) before I got one that doesn't make any noise.

Yep thats the beast. Its a wonderful power brick and i have had zero problems with it.

Though i REALLY wish the power connector was a bit shorter, it does tend to work its way free of the laptop if your not careful. I'm thinking about just trying to splice the old one into the the cable instead of have the socket at the end of the power out line

Agreed. That is my one and only quibble with this brick. But if you dont move around a lot(ie on a desk), its perfect.
