This may sound odd, but i notice day by day, that my Vista COA iss quickly wearing off. The top text that says "Windows Vista Home...." is all but gone, with my actual key still readable (right now).
I guess this is a disappointment to me though, as it would really hurt resell value (not that i want to but lets be honest here, things can happen...). I mean, i have taken a photo now (admittedly, too late to save all of th original label), but give it another month or two, and it will be all gone; what would any potential buyer do?
So.. am I all alone?

I dont have one, but couldn't you put a piece of clear tape over it?

I know that the label on mine looked kind of worn when I bought the computer and after research I discovered that Microsoft does this intentionally on the COA labels. But I noticed also on my laptop that it did have a clear piece of cellophane type material over the COA and that has so far protected it from actually fading or smudging.

Ah - well, that is annoying. Mine is just the plain paper, nothing protecting it. I wonder - f it wears off, could i get a new one from Gateway?

You really do not need it, you have a oem ver of vista with the recovery disk. the COA# will never need to be used to install vista on your laptop. Besides if you call micosoft with a auth problem, they just give you a new key.
