    Can you put a X6800 processor in a 6831-FX?
I now some people have put in X9100( I think) in their 6831-FX are they the same as the X6800 in compatibility.
I have a extra one laying around(don't ask..lol)and wondering if this CPU is compatible without any other modifications besides just dropping it in there.

I'm going to go with a big no on that one.

the x6800 is a desktop CPU if i'm not mistaken so wont fit our motherboards at all.

And if anyone has told you they have put in the x9100 in the 6831 then they are lying...the X9100 is a motivena CPU that hasnt even been released yet.

You might be confusing the x6800 with the x7800 (which is a laptop CPU and DOES fit in the 6831) and the x9100 with the x9000 with is the penyrn high end extreme CPU for laptops.

    My bad!
Since they are in the extreme "family" and have one from a ASUS C 90 S that I really don't like too much.(heat and noise and you can't upgrade the graphic card but overall works really great)
I just wanted a easy swap but like everything else I try to do a bad idea.
Good thing because I was going to tear it apart today.
I also have a T9300 that I could put in but wanted to save that for something else but T9300 it is.
How does that compare with the X6800?
Is RAID easy to do in a 6831-FX? any performance boost if I add another same speed HD like the stock old one?
Is it recognized automatically or do I have to do anything?

The X6800 will be faster, but not by too much. Stick the T9300 in, it will be very cool and will run pretty quickly.

Im not too sure about RAID, but the performance gain is negligable from what I have been reading.

if its anything like the 6860 fx, setting up raid is easy as eating cake. (trust this fat guy, i know)

if you still have your user manual, there should be a section in there about how to set up raid. just dont expect to NOT have to re-install windows, as you have to re-install windows in order for the raid array to be read correctly.

Errr. I wouldn't say that, nars. There's a pretty decent performance boost by going to RAID 0. Enough that I wont buy or build another machine without it. I'm pretty skeptical about technology, as there are a lot of unsubstantiated claims made, but this is one piece that convinced me.

And yes, its very easy to do. Just make sure you have your files backed up and restore disks made, as youre gonna have to do a clean install after creating the array.
