A couple of days ago i decided to download a cod4 game demo (not the trail demo but the replay) to watch cod4 scrims. 15 minutes after i viewed the demo my laptop shuts off. I suspected overheating rightaway. Did some temp checks and my gpu is at 98-100C (HWmonitor). I havent played COD4 (and crysis) since summer and i don't remember tweaking anything except for a display drivers since before i even started playing games. I also installed a HWmonitor sidebar gadget.

While investigating i noticed my GPU fan isn't blowing as hard before. Usual when Im on an intense 3d gaming it blows at max, but it's not doing this anymore. I might had change something and prolly i forgot... basically Im stuck here trying to get a lead so i can start fixing this.

My clocks are still at factory default. Right now im testing this 175.12 and hopefully get it fixed.

TL;DR: GPU Fan automated control is not working as it's supposed to.

the fan control on these machines is a bios thing according to sensor values, so there is nothing you can actually do via software (drivers included).

talk to gateway support about getting it fixed, its probably the gpu fan, however its such a pain getting to it....

From more further diagnosis, the fan automatic fan control is actually working normally. But the airflow blowing out doesn't seem to be as strong as before. It could be either the fan going bad or the GPU running too hot. My idles are around 65-71 nowadays but i don't have a baseline to compare it with. Other than getting a new GPU fan first. Is there any drivers or software than can underclock when the laptop is not using that much power or when its getting too hot?

that's because you probably have a ton of lint and dust in there...get ta blowing! *LOL* just kidding. get you some can air. i personally use a compressor to blow them out every month. and speaking of that...it is that time again.

edit: it should have started doing a forced down clock at 98+ degrees.
