I was thinking of an Ageia card, but them I discovered that they only come in the MXM form factor.
I might just get a Turbo Memory card, unless there is something better I have not thought of.

I am contemplating putting an Intel turbo Memory Card in the empty slot however I believe it will not function because of the Bios being locked.I read that windows will recognize it however the device will not be able to start and generates an error code.I believe I read during my research in other forums and Google that this device(Intel Turbo Memory) has to be enabled via the Bios to be functional.I also read that Turbo Memory did not offer much benefit to enhancing system performance but I do not agree with that until I try it for myself.

I read an article on ExtremeTech that showed a boost... but yeah I am skeptical too.
-
I could probably find it in the BIOS and enable it if I get some time. I won't be able to look at it for a week or two, though. I don't have the module either, and I don't intend to buy one based on what I've read and seen. However, when I get time I can look at it I can and provide an untested flash if anyone wants it.

I just emailed gateway support with this question, lets see what happens. I bet they give me a generic response, like we can not support bla bla bla...hehe. Oh I used my wifes name, after all it is my "wifes" laptop
"I own a p-171x fx and was wondering if it supports the intel turbo memory card, the one that goes in the extra pci-e slot inside my note book by the ram. If I put this intel turbo memory card, do I need to do anything in bios? Thank you, Tami" -
Well here is the reply from Gateway, it is actuly the second reply, as the first Gateway thought I was talking about Ram, go figure, lol
Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, we cannot assure that the laptop would support an Intel turbo memory card, since it was not tested and shipped with the laptop. We only assure that the laptop would fully function using the original components installed.
Ok, dah, well I expected as much -
One thing I hate about Gateway is their customer support. They always give the most generic answers and never seem to be truly helpful.
-
Yep, They could say, We don't support it but it will work

I was thinking about this to put into the other mini PCIe slot

Has anyone tried the Intel Turbo Memory in the pci e slot yet?
-
I have, and it doesn't work. All I get get is an Error Code.
. -
gohack, are you getting the error on bootup? if so did you disable it in the bootable part in the bios?
-
All the very latest software and drivers are loaded, that I got from the Intel website.
Talking to Gateway, they say to talk to Intel and Microsoft, who in return, tell me to talk to Gateway.

Nice, real nice, sorry bud ;(

Every little bit helps.
